Gasoline Cars are the Film Cameras of the Future.

North America is years behind other industrialized countries. China is now the world leader in solar and wind energy. Europe is years ahead of the USA. In the meantime, the USA continues generating electricity with outdated and inefficient coal-fired plants. Add to that, the USA's failure to invest in public infrastructure: during the past two decades the Chinese high speed rail network reached 36,000 km (22,000 mi) in total length in August 2020. The building boom continues with the high speed rail network set to reach 70,000 km (43,000 mi) in 2035. The USA: ZERO investment in high speed rail. Grow up, innovate or become obsolete.

Isn't China number one polluter in the World? 30% from total comparing to 15% from USA. With solar wind farms been in California longer than made in China mass production junk which was started with direct involvement from USA.
China life in giant concentration camps is not innovative. It is the past of the developed world.
Innovations and China is oxymoron. Steal and copy. High speed train network is nothing new for Europe and Japan.
China is stuck in thousands years old empire mentality. With suppressing of minorities on religious and all kind of freedoms. With real concentration camps. It is nazy's state.

This thread is proof that statistics are _______ in the hands on non-statisticians.

a.) amusing
b.) annoying
c.) misleading
d.) confusing
e.) all of the above

Europe is years ahead of the USA.
Much of Norway's wealth is built upon petroleum exports.

Meanwhle in the USA, it might be best to allow the fossil fuel industry decline at it's own market-driven pace, which it already seems to be doing. Give it time to invest in other areas, and for people to acquire new skills, which may take longer than a generation.

We might reduce our own individual carbon footprints, not by "shopping for change", but rather, by not shopping so much: Eat fewer animals and animal products (especially cattle) and less palm oil. Consider paying equatorial countries to preserve and restore rainforest, for rainforests are among the planet's biggest carbon sinks. Imagine if the world valued rainforests more highly than a cheap hamburger and microwave popcorn!

Which statistics are you referring to?

Most all of them. I find the use of statistics to be incredibly interesting when digging into the unknown. But I also find their hand-picked use, taken out of context of the study that they were a part of, to make a point to be highly suspicious.

North America is years behind other industrialized countries. China is now the world leader in solar and wind energy.

China is the largest producer and consumer of coal in the world and is the largest user of coal-derived electricity.

Never, ever equate the installed capacity of wind and solar with generation capacity (i.e. the amount generated over a period, typically one year, divided by the installed capacity).

China is the largest producer and consumer of coal in the world
It also has the largest population of any country in the world: as of November 2019, China's population stood at 1.394 billion -Wikipedia. As I mentioned above, China is also the world leader in the solar and wind energy sectors, as it is in high speed rail. Cheers, OtL
