Gauging interest: custom threaded adapter ring for 40mm Summicrons

I've contacted SK Grimes about an adapter ring for these lenses. It would be a simple, black-anodised aluminium ring that would screw into the M39 x.75 thread on the lens, and offer an M39 x.5 female thread one could safely screw common, off-the-shelf filters and hoods onto. I suppose it could be specified to accept a generic snap-on cap, as well.

Price would run ~$70 US plus postage, each. I'm sufficiently commited to the lens to want one; would anyone else be interested, at that price?

Biggles, I just so happen to see on used on DAG's website under Leica M products and parts. It was listing for $30 with part# DAGM66.

This custom part you propose would be viable if we knew an additional filter or screw on hood wouldn't cause vignetting. If you made it wider on the male thread end, say 40.5 or 43mm, we can probably get away with a filter and a hood on top of that. Not sure if it would clear the 40mm angle of view though. 😕

If you're going to go to this much trouble why not make series 5.5 copies?

Currently "making do" with a 39mm 0.5 thread. As you know it doesn't really fit too well, but as long as you don't try to screw it in all the way, you can always take it off. I put a drop of silicon to prevent it from unscrewing.

Not the best solution, yes, I'd like one that fit, but $70 is a bit rich for me.
I'll stick with the silicon.

As the previous poster mentioned, I'm also concerned about possible increased vignetting from the adaptor.
