Gear advice for travel?

When travelling, if animals are not a photographic goal (like bird-watching), I use to have a normal lens (Nokton 50/1.5) and a wide (21/f4) on 2 bodies and both kind of film fast and slow (mainly 400 and 100 and a roll or two of 1600) so I can cover any light condition (if you want you can take a look to photos I shot Turkey last summer).
This is the set I can comfortably deal with when I'm travelling.

Nah!......could only afford one for the Weston! 🙁

Just recently got back from Indonesia and Malaysia and shot with 2 body/lens combos that did not change the entire trip: M4 + Summicron 35/2 and F3HP + Nikkor 20/2.8. I had also packed a 50/1.4 for the F3 as well - never used it. Shot around 50 rolls.

Interesting question that really got me thinking. I have more cameras than I can use -- guess many of you know how that happens -- but after pondering long and hard I decided I would take an Olympus Stylus Epic (MJU outside the USA).
My reasons are:
1. Small - no need for a bag.
2. Weatherproof.
3. Superb, fast-tish lens.
4. Auto focus.
5. Spot metering.
6. Multiple flash modes
7. Great for street shooting and hip-shooting.
8. No-one thinks you're a serious photographer which is ironic because one of my best-selling news pics was taken with an Epic after I had packed away the more serious Nikons.
9. Reasonably wide angle lens.
10. Battery that seems to last for ever.

The fact that it uses a battery may be considered a disadvantage but then I figure, because I can stick the camera in a shirt pocket I'll have plenty of space for two spare batteries (that I reckon will give me about a year's shooting) as well as heaps of film.

No laptops, card readers, power packs. The more I think about it the more I like the Epic idea!

Of course, you should really have gone there years ago, before they ruined it. Not much point going now: it'll only be a poor imitation of what you could have seen if you'd been born earlier. It was different when I was there of course...
