The owner, my customer, is 80 and has owned the place since Route 66's heyday. Boy has he seen changes. Unfortunately today the area is rife with homeless and drug abuse.

Chip/Tim do you know which diner is in the show Better Call Saul? It’s some place on Central Ave.

Yes I think it’s either that motel or another one in the show (The Crossroads Motel maybe?) that has signs that say ‘no photography allowed’ unless you pay a fee. I think it’s right where I-25 and Central Ave. meet.

The Crossroads was used a lot in Breaking Bad and is right at Central and 25. You can see it from 25. Hadn't noticed a no photography sign but not surprised.

Now that I see the pictures of the De Anza, I have a feeling I took a shot there a number of years ago. Not totally sure.

Yeah, that's the front of the De Anza. You can see the security guard. Must have been close to sunset. What year did you take that? I'm curious because the similar image in the G&HH video is from 2015, when the De Anza lettering on that upper white surface was still present.

Was actually taken the year before I think, so I don’t know what happened with the lettering between one year and the next. Looking closely I think I see an outline of some of the lettering, so who knows.

If you look at the image in the video, and your image above, the white paint is chipped off in the exact same place on the lower edge of that overhang, so it would probably make sense that they painted the letters on the overhang, between the two images, rather than taking the letters off the overhang, as they didn't disturb that lower section at all.

I was hoping to see the El Vado motel. I stayed there in 2000 while on a trip to the VLA radio telescopes. The motel was quite cool with little garages next to each unit. I checked and it looks like it has undergone a major renovation.

The downside of a project like this is you're bound to miss certain properties that someone has affection for. It looks like they did a really nice job renovating the El Vado. At least from the pics on their website. Should be a great place to stay.

Reading through this thread has brought back some memories. In 1990, my family moved to Edgewood, New Mexico and I spent my high school years there, stayed around after graduating from Moriarty High in 1995 then joined the Navy in 1997.
When we got there, Edgewood was just a village with one blinking red stop light at the intersection of Hwy 344 and 66. Now it's a bona fide town and I barely recognize it. I was back there in 2015 and 2016 and with a Wal Mart and Hwy 344 being 4 lanes across from 66 all the way to Dinkle Rd. it's certainly changed. Meanwhile, Moriarty has remained largely untouched. I haven't watched any of the episodes yet but I definitely will be doing so soon. If I were to ever move back to New Mexico, it would probably be to Santa Rosa, if not somewhere up north, like Cimarron.
Very interesting thread and I'm looking forward to seeing the videos.
