Can anybody tell me about the thread size I should look for the :

Nikon 35/2.5 & 35/3.5.
Do I need a vented hood or some said that there is no need of attaching a hood since the lens are deep-seated & surrounded by the barrel. BTW, what about for the UV lens ?

Nikon 50/1.4
Should I go for the vented/tilted new hood from Heavystar ? or, just the normal vented is ok ?

Nikon 85/2
any recommendation for this 48mm hold ?

Thanks guys.

Those 2.5 and 3.5 Nikkor lenses take 40.5mm filters. I believe that the 1.4 needs a 43mm filter. The original Nikon hoods weren't vented. People got some great shots even without being able to see the corner of the image. Vented hoods get bent out of round more easily. Nikon had some pretty sturdy hard coating on those lenses. I wouldn't bother with a UV filter. With recessed lenses you probably don't need a hood either, unless you put a filter on the lens.

The S-mount 35/2.5, 35/3.5 and 50/1.4 all use 43mm filters. The thread pitch is 0.5mm, not the 0.75mm used on modern lenses. Before you buy a hood from Heavystar, confirm that the thread pitch is 0.5mm.

The 85/2 uses 48mm filters. Again the thread pitch is 0.5mm.

My 85/2 chrome Nikkor came with a 48mm seies VII adapter made by Canon. I guess it's "chrome" but it's badly discolored and pitted. The hood, uglier even than the series VII adapter is a straight sided (no flare to it) "Tiffen SERIES #7-A LENS SHADE MADE IN U.S.A." It's black flocked on the inside which appears to be original.

But it seems there are no threads on the outer rim... not received the lens yet...

What front cap to use ? A Snap-on type ?

hi guys,

sorry to bump this thread. i'm trying to find 43mm hood and filter on ebay (seller heavystar) but with no luck. any other online seller or shops who have these generic hoods/filters for 43mm lenses and 40.5mm lenses?

finally, got a hold of my nikon s2 and very happy with it... just need a filter or hood for lens protection (50mm 1.4)

thanks in advance..

Heavystar does have both 43 and 40.5mm hoods, for example 110409214917@ebay. These wide angle hoods work better than the fenestrated ones, with filter the latter ones vignette.

Cameraquest sells generic hoods as well.

Roland.

ah yeah! saw some from heavy2star as well.. thanks!!!

should i buy the vented ones? can i use filter with it?

ferider,

saw the hood. is this better than the vented types?

thanks again

I like it better, and used it on both 50/1.4 and 35/1.8 (and these days on Nokton 35/1.4). Also use a similar 40.5 one on 50/2. Nice and small, and heavystar also sells caps to put on the hood. But this is subjective of course ....

The other alternative is Cameraquest's 43mm hood as you can see here:

Best,
