Gentlemen... may I join your hallowed ranks ?

Congratulations to your latest purchase! So what is next! :p

Welcome Ijonas! I don't know how hallow'd these walls are, but they sure are civil and helpful. Be warned though! Abandon all hope of restraint in the aquisition of more RF gear. Your new M6 is just the beginning.

Pull up a chair and stay a while.

Welcome Ijonas, and keep your DSLR! You'll need it for the camera and coffee pictures :)

Congrats. Wonderful camera, and it is nice to get it with a year warrenty.

Congrats - an M6 was my first Leica to - and my first step into a different set of "photographic values" I think you have come to the right place - this Forum is really nice and there is a lovely humor to :)

Congratulations on the M6. Look forward to seeing it and Denis' new M6 in the Camera and Coffee thread. They are quite nice cameras, I got to put a roll through the M6 Wetzlar to check it out. I put my 90mm F2.8 Tele-Elmarit on it, stepped out the garage door to get a few test shots, and was greeted by 3 deer. Very quiet shutter, accurate exposure, easy focus, smooth advance. Doesn't get better than that.

Hallowed Ranks? Certainly you are not referring to a group that would have me as a member??? Hollow Ranks Maybe?

Ijonas congrats! A Leica M6 was my first (and so far only :( ) RF cam. That's a very nice looking camera you got there - your bid went through right? The item is listed as auction ended - no bids???

Hi Peter.

The bidding process was funny. I was watching the bid for a couple of days, then today with an hour and a half to go, I got excited because no bids had been placed. Time passed came back 15 minutes before the end, no change.... Then I got distracted, came back to page, 10 secs to go..... aaargggghh. Placed the bid but missed it... auction closed. Noooooo!!!!!!

I noticed it was a Jessops Auction (Jessops is like BHPhotoVideo in UK, except not as good) so I phoned them up and asked if I could still place an offer even though the auction had ended, which the allowed me to do. Phew!!

Having spent a lot of time comparing prices in the UK, Jessops is actually one of the cheapest places to buy brand new Leica kit compared to the stalwarts like Robert White etc., which surprised me.

It arrives Friday, can't wait!.

Now.... about some lenses .....

Ij.

I have two leicas(a IIIa , M3), but not any with the big red circle filled with squiggly lines in it on the front of the camera. I'm sure you will enjoy using it.

Ah, I was wondering what happened with the bidding, as the completed auction shows zero bids... :) Congratulations, that looks like a very nice one!

So... what about lenses? Joining the hallowed ranks of Leica ownership is likely to involve a hollowed wallet! Leica is known for exquisite lens quality, so if at all possible financially, that would be the best way to go. When I got my used Leica body, I bought at the same time a new 35mm Summicron, and this has been a very happy combination. Maybe Jessop's has some used lenses at attractive prices?

What focal length appeals to you for the majority of use? Do you need something faster than f/2?

I've currently got a CV 50/1.5 Nokton and a CV 35/2.5 Color Skopar II. I'd like to add either a 75mm or 90mm to the range.

My reason for buying the Leica was as second RF body with a longer RF baseline (almost twice that of my Bessa R2). From what I gather the Leica 75/1.4 is extortianate, although the CV 75/2.5 is getting great reviews. The 90/2 Summicron looks like a contender.

So the 75 & 90mm are my first target, followed by potentially replacing the Nokton, which although useful at f1.5 isn't the greatest lens I've used. So its likely to be replaced by a 50/2 Summicron.

My CV 35/2.5 Pancake is my favourite lense and would put a good fight against any Leica, both in the glass & also dinkyness department. An absolute classic, so good, I've bought it twice (the first one dropped, and didn't survive).

Oooh, the perils of Leica user.... what have I done...? I've created a monster! :bang:

I've must have done something wrong... I have an M2 looking me right now and yet the wallet and bank account is not been hollowed out.

I'm jealous of your wallet and bank account, Stu.

I think me smart
I sold some surplus gear to pay for the M2.
1x Bessa R (One RF body per lens is a bit TOO much GAS for me)
12x 8x10 Double Dark slides
1x 75mm Rodenstock Enlarging lens
1x Home restored Canonet QL17
1x N Gauge Train set (why my parents gave me a train set for xmas 2002 is beyond me)

I've always held the ideal of that one should use funds from older/unused gear to finance new stuff. Hence the wallet the is still in good shape and the bank manger isn't ringing me up yet...

Stu :)
