It's never been an issue for me. The Arca-Swiss plate uses the same socket anyway.

I've had the GMP and didn't like it. There is not enough depth to allow a comfortable finger grip. It took too much effort to hang on to. I prefer the shape of the Leica grip and the Rapidgrip. Both offer more surface area for the fingers; especially the Rapidgrip.
