Get in the Debug mode and Shoot RAW with your M9

This news came across recently. Try it out if you have a MM or M9. By doing several steps in order, you can get in the factory debug mode. In that case, you are able to shoot RAW instead of DNG. Besides, there are few other settings that can be adjusted. Feel free to share your thoughts and your own experience!

With the M8 you simply turned the camera off. With the M9 I assume it to be the same.

I tried it. Turn it off to exit. There are some things in there I'd like to experiment with, but I didn't see any option to to in RAW instead of DNG.

The 'black shading' and 'color shading' look like interesting things to start toying with.

DNG is both a raw image format and a format that supports "non-raw", or partly processed, images.

So it is and isn't.

Neat, I'll have to try this. I hope there is a way to either shut off the long exposure noise reduction, or maybe a true T mode that lasts longer than 250 seconds?

I tried it. Turn it off to exit. There are some things in there I'd like to experiment with, but I didn't see any option to to in RAW instead of DNG.

You can select the “RAW” where you used to select ”DNG“ after you turn on the debug mode.

Hi there, I can only answer the question that i have experienced,

1. the uncompressed DNG and the RAW appears to be the same interns of image quality, but it seems like there is no lens correction in the RAW file. (I can see darker corners comparing to the DNG)

1a. Yes, they can.

2. So far i haven't seen there is such option..I'll probably have to dig deeper 🙁

3. The whole sequence will only turn on the debug mode, and it goes away when you turn off, there is no chance to get it bricked.

Nearly every post made by that person is written in a tone that is condescending. The comment had more to do with his general dickish-ness on here and other forums than it did with RAW/DNG, which is why I added it as an afterthought.

Because the M8 uses compressed dngs some people hoped that the use of raw might bring some advantages in image quality. I tested it a lot and found no evidence for this in my test scenarios.
I think it makes even less sense to use this raw format when the camera already offers uncompressed dng.

I tested it too and came to the same conclusion.

In any case, the M9 debug offers other options like 'black shading' and 'color shading'. I've yet to have time to do tests, but I'd like to know how those settings effect IQ.

Neat, presume there is a menu item to check shutter count link on the M8?
