Get kodachrome uncut films. Dwayne or Wallmart??

Hi All

I have use walmart onlly once and although their price is very low, they messed (or did they?) and returned me all my rolls cut and mounted, each of the roll with a personal note that "their machine do not allow not to cut the film"
yeah right...

Now I wonder if it was an accident, or if, maybe, Dwayne is running special Walmart batches, and maybe is not ready to do anything special there.

Does someone have any experience in sending K14 processing through walmart and asking them to be left uncut?

As far as I know, Dwayne's is the only lab in the world that still processes Kodachrome ( an incredibly complicated process).

Even if Walmart accepts your exposed Kodachrome, it's eventually going to wind-up at Dwayne's.... who are supposed to be shutting down their K-14 lab at the end of this year (2010).

Around here (North east Pennsylvania, USA) all the Wal-Marts have given-up their in-store processing and send film out to a regional lab (Rochester, NY?).

You'd probably be better-off dealing directly with Dwayne's.

I forgot to mention, but I suppose K afficionados know it:

right now Dwayne have increased their K14 process to 10$ a roll which I find quite hefty.
W is much cheaper (although no idea of the actual price right now.)

i received a package from dwayne's about a week ago with 12 rolls of processed, UNCUT kodachrome, so i can assure you that they do return it uncut.
i have never used wal mart for kodachrome, but i have used rite aid and it was a nightmare. they lost it and i had to call every rite aid in the area to find it. it also took a long time, maybe a month. not worth it to me...

Dwayne's is the only place in the world still processing Kodachrome.

Wal-Mart never did their own K-14, and most Wal-Marts have eliminated their in-store processing for C-41.

K-14 is a complicated process that involves about 14 steps, requires stringent control in the lab, to the point of requiring the services of an industrial chemist, on-site, all the time.


This is one of the reasons Kodachrome is going away.

Dwayne's may be getting pricey for K-14 process, but they are the only option.

While other retailers may offer to accept kodachrome for processing, it is going to wind-up at Dwayne's eventually.

I know that Walmart is sending everything to Dwayne's.

I just wander if someone has used walmart for uncut film, and with what success..

Dwayne's will definitely give you your Kodachrome uncut if you specify that preference. I have no direct knowledge of using Walmart since I live in a city. I have read, but not confirmed, that the downside of having them send the film to Dwayne's is that the film must be mounted (the upside being you pay less than going directly to Dwayne's).

OK, why didn't I do it before, I don't know, but here is the answer from this nice lady from Dwayne's:

"If you want them unmounted, you need to send them directly to us"

It appears that NOT cutting and mounting your slides is a special service, not provided by walmart (go figure...)
