All the late model 50mm are outsanding performers. I've got a late model pre-asph Summilux (circa 2000) and its blown my socks off - far better than I ever imagined. In fact its taken the place of my 35mm Summilux Asph - its that good.

Under low light cond has exceeded all expectations.

Vladimir,

I can't agree more. The 50 Lux ASPH is my FAVORITE lens of all time.

Honus,

Glad to see you really like it also.

Best,

Ray

Tremendous lens. All of these photos display the kind of (authoritative) drawing we are talking about. (Lighting must have been tricky in the shoping mall though). My favourite of this test series is the asphalt one.

Thanks for the link to my photos. 🙂

The way the 50 ASPH renders texture is really impressive, even after compression into web size.

I was just about to say "Not thank you" for that link to your photos, because it will be expensive for me. 😉

I was very impressed by many of the people shots, http://flickr.com/photos/johnkuo/311725418 for example.

It is impossible to really show the effect of the pictures from small jpegs, but, well I am still stunned.

I have long considered getting a Leica lens and have been indecisive, though leaned towards the 35/1.4 ASPH over the 50/1.4 ASPH, but now I will get a 50/1.4 ASPH as soon as I can afford to. (I might still get that 35/1.4 at some point... 🙄 )

Then I need to see if my digital darkroom is able to cope with it and slow film. I might have to set up my Focomat V35 again (Leica all the way) and really do some comparisions.

I shot some close up abstracts while having dinner yesterday on XP2!!!!!!! my god!!! this is amazing lens! really I can not stop, it is unbeleavable!

😀 😀 😀
I will post some images tonight, absolutly marvelous lens...
as for planar, planar is sharp and 3D look and everything but this lens, I don`t even have words, even in the very very bad lighting it paints beautyful light!

Keep shooting and enjoying Vladimir!

There is a unique quality to this lens that several members of the old Leica forum talked about, but which is seldom mentioned elsewhere. If you shoot very, very low-light scenes (1/8s or longer, wide open), you will often find the resultant image has a tendency to scan and/or print brighter than you remember the scene being (and brighter than if shot with another lens with same exposure values). I have encountered this several times, when I had expected the image to be dim and murky. I recall someone on the old Leica forum saying it was as if the lens "had the ability to make light where there was none"
