Does anyone know how to get the Lumix G1 to flash sync at speeds higher than 1/30 when in A or P mode? My camera defaults to this speed, and there doesn't seem to be any way to make it sync faster. I believe the camera has a max sync speed of 1/160.

Duh! In both the A and P modes the camera chooses the shutter speed.

If you want a voice in the decision don't tell the camera to choose. Use a different exposure mode such as M or S where you have a say in the shutter speed.

Bump.

Does no one here use flash with the Lumix G1!?

So. Tried my G1 in combination with an old Olympus FL-36 flash. Works in full TTL mode together.
In A-mode the camera starts with 1/30 as you noticed before. You can either tune up ISO get a faster time, or you can underexpose.

Take one photo with normal setting and one with minus 1 stop. Both photos a equally exposed but in the first photo you will have more surrounding light while in the second photo you will have more fill light from the flash. When you underexpose you will have a faster time, but the colour of the photo might not look so good because you have more of the cold flash light.

There are many cameras where you can set a default for a parameter in A or P mode. I guess the G1 is not one of them. Too bad.
