Several months ago I purchased 500ml of rodinal. Since I use it in 1:100 dilutions, I tend to use 3-5ml, depending on whether I'm doing one or two reels in my patterson.

The opening on the bottle is very, very small. My father is a doctor, and he got me this 6ml syringe which barely fits in. Trouble is.. it's now oficially too short. I cannot get at the rodinal anymore, even if I tip the bottle! So.... how do I do this? I went to Samy's the other day, and they had some mL cylinders and nothing else, but I'd rather not be pouring that stuff, and would prefer to find a way out of the bottle and direct into my mixing beaker.

Thanks for any ideas! :)

Yea a pipette would be a good idea. get the plastic ones, as classic glass with the rubber bulb on one end are prone to smashing (as we found out in my science classes!!)

I simply tilt the Rodi bottle and pour it into a small measuring cup. From practice spillage is rare. Hope that helps

I usually pour from the bottle into a small cup, like a film can, or a clear plastic graduated cup like they serve meds from in the hospital. More than an ounce is too much. Then I put the tip of a plastic syringe into this small amount of the Precioussss, and draw out just the amount needed as indicated on the side of the syringe. Any left over gets poured back into the bottle.

Bryce the only problem is contamination, so wash the bottle out thoroughly and make sure you use it quickly, as it may kill the chemical's lifespan a bit.

I fill my Rodinal bottle up with (washed & dried) glass marbles. With the air removed from the bottle, the shelf life is extended also.

cool idea, unfortunately I'd have chemical-covered marbles goin all over the place if I did that!!

Thank you.. love the marbles idea, hahaha :D I don't know if I've still got mine here (figuratively and literrally, :p)

I will look for a plastic pipet somewhere. I'm not very good with pouring things, I'm too concerned about actual contamination, that rodinal bottle scares me with all the hazard language on it

To those talking about shelf-life.. I thought rodinal will last "for ever" tightly sealed ?

You need a transfer pipette made from plastic. Looks like a medicine dropper with a long snout. Put it in a 10 ml grad cylinder.

Or just have dad put a large diameter needle in the syringe. He can clip the sharp portion of the end end off if he is worried about you getting hooked on rodinal.

Are the mouths of the 500ml bottles smaller diameter than the 125ml bottles? I use a syringe that I bought from the drugstore, intended for measuring cough syrup, etc. for children. Fits all the way into the smaller bottles of Rodinal, and it's cheap.

Rodinal lasts +20 years if you screw the cap back on. My plastic bottle is now emplty, good to last drop, if there was any residue it went into last tank full.

I've got a 10ml (i.e. 10cc) measure and you can drip fill it with care and rubber gloves, it is unwise to try and fill it beyond 5ml.
