Getting the T2 serviced and your experience with Nippon Camera Service

Hey All!

So I'm a proud owner of a Contax T2 finally! I waited for the right moment and took my chances.
I was rushed when I met with the person and didnt get to look at it long enough before making the purchase. When I got home I noticed that there was fungus in the lens! There's not a lot, but I'm pretty bummed about it.

I know Nippon services the Contax, so my question is to the people that have sent their cameras to them; Do they actually replace parts that need to be -or do they just try their best they can to service it? Have you had fungus in your lens and were they able to get rid of it or can they replace the lens all together?

If anyone else took their contax somewhere else where they did an amazing job, please let me know.

The good news is, this is a fairly new camera (compared to 1950s or even older lenses) and so should clean up with zero issues. I once had a C/Y Planar 50/1.7 with some light fungus on the front element. Previous owner had left a filter on so it was unscratched but there was fungus on the front surface of the lens and back surface of the filter. The filter was ruined but the Zeiss coating was unmarked and the lens looked absolutely brand new after cleaning and images were great.

I can't help WRT servicing but it should be no problem.

No personal experience with the T2, but Nippon in NYC is your best bet for Contax service in the States. If anyone is going to have parts, it will be them, though this should not need parts. I've had them do a significant repair on a 645 and an RX and a lens. The work has been good, the communication has been good, everything fairly timely.
They will send a repair estimate (which is not necessarily free) before they do the work, for your approval. This is important, because one thing they are not is inexpensive, in my experience. I was more than satisfied, but it wasn't painless.

I've never dealt with fungus before on a lens, so this is the first time. And I know that it eats away at the coating of the lens. Of course I'm going to be a little baby about, just because everything was a lot of money. Though, the replies are making me feel a little better.
I noticed that Nippon can be pricey, but if they're legit, I can accept that.
I saw a seller on craigslist trying to sell his T2 for a ridiculous amount JUST because it was serviced there. He posted a pic of the form from them on what they did. $160 in labor and $106 in parts. So that kinda helped me determine how much I'll be spending roughly.

The waiting game always kills me. Southern California to New York.... would have been rad to have just walked it in, instead of mailing this little sucker.
