GF670 in San Francisco

One other thing to consider. You said The GF670 is much cheaper in the US than it is in the UK. If that's the case and you have enough spare cash available then why not just buy it, try it and if you decide you don't like it you can resell it in the UK for whatever you paid or close to it.
 
The only place in SF that I can imagine carrying that camera would be the camera shop on Kearny. IF they carry it, you can forget about that anticipated $1k savings. 🙂 I think you would have better luck on Craigslist. You might want to start searching Craigslist for the SF Bay Area and try to get one via private sale. Our local used camera market is pretty good on CL. Also, I don't know how long you will be in the area but there are Camera/Gear shows in Hayward and San Jose. Those shows are also advertised on CL.

where'd you hear that? i have been waiting for a good comparison between the fuji gf670 and the mamiya 7.

It seems you're confusing the GF670 with the GW670.
 
Jamie, yes, you're right, AG Photographic, one of my favourite film places has the GF670 for £1699 which is $2,501.61, vs. the $1799 actual selling price in the USA. So I could buy it over there, and likely make a profit selling here.

Ray, thanks for the offer, but I'm only in SF for a few days, and they're all booked up with seeing Alcatraz etc! I'm just there for a bit before going to Hawaii.

😱 You're right, Jamie! I'm getting all confused on the 670's in my eagerness to assist. I should know better, because I was lusting after that camera. I've since settled my MF RF lust by buying an Mamiya M7, so I'm a bit out of the loop.

While it's not listed on the website that I know of, Freestyle Photo in Los Angeles has the Fuji version of the camera in store. I was there last Friday the 25th and saw it on display. Also had the leather case and hood for it.
I think it's a great camera. Gives me an interesting, saturated, contrasty, almost retro result when I shoot with it. Very very portable. It is lighter than it looks. I love it. It was the first camera I ever purchased over 1k and never regretted it 🙂
 
Thanks to all that responded, I'm back from holiday now, did not get one in the end, was just too busy and the last thing I needed was *another* camera to carry around. I shot 16 rolls of 35mm though, inc. one Kodachrome, so will be excited to those back from the lab soon.
