Something else that could change about The GIMP: the name. Although it's currently very descriptive (GNU Image Manipulation Program), something I've heard and thought more than once is, "I'd recommend it to my boss/friend/mother, but I think they'll reject it when they hear the name." The word "gimp" does not have very positive connotations.

After reading about LightZone on this thread, I downloaded the Linux version. It has some pretty heavy hardware requirements.

Thanks, shadowfox. I will keep your comment in post #20, and try LightZone. I have seen it mentioned and I went to their site, I liked what I saw. But the Linux thing discouraged me. I will try your method.

I have been trying to install gimp on my Intel iMac, but I can't seem to get Apple X11 to install for some reason.
