I am seriously contemplating aquiring a Gitzo Explorer. I like infinite possibilities of angles and heights for macro and the centre column especially. I plan on shooting more cars, longer exposures, and getting more creative, and more architecture.
So if you have or had a Gitzo Explorer, please tell me about it.
"I am not planning on using long 200mm or 300mm lenses, as I only have 2 Nikon F3s, 2 Nikon F4s, with my prime lenses"

My Explorer is the default choice for a tripod. It is the most versatile but not always the most rigid. I use a Wolf when the most rigid tripod can be used.

Lots of users of the Explorer you're talking about over on the FM & Canon forums, I assume you're contemplating the 2541EX. Great tripod for what it does. What ballhead are you thinking about?

Peter n, You are right, I was thinking of the GT2531EX or the 2541EX with a off centre head. The difference in maximum height is 6cm. In the world of tripods that I know of is the consumer standard tripod that I have used.
