I want to shoot tighter, more accurately.
I'm giving up on my Ps' internal bright line finders.
Nooky (Leica's 35mm bright line finder, stop panting) has been the game forever for M3 so it's good enough for Canon P. And I've got one. With Nooky you don't even need film, you just gaze at it, or even through it.
The big drawback to P with Nooky (or external Canon & Nikon finders or my 25CV finder for that matter, or the CV meter from what I've heard) is accessory shoes, which are too loose...lose a CV meters, who cares. Lose a Nooky and one loses bigtime. Not only is Nooky an ultimate, holy photographic gizmo, Nooky is VERY expensive, like $300. One doesn't want to lose one's Nooky.
THEREFORE, Nooky is now taped into an accessory shoe until I can figure out a better way to lock it in place. Ideas?

if you really want to shoot tighter, more accurately, use a TLR or an SLR with a 100% viewfinder (minolta dynax 9, contax aria to name only two). Seriously.

I have glued a small piece of card stock under a couple of finders to keep them in place. Works great.

Pherdinand, I already shoot Canon F1s for ultimate-precise framing. Nooky is highly accurate and a joy to use, once you're used to the extra peeper...it makes a IIIC the equivalent of an M3.

I am a little dazed (nothing new in that) but I understand NOOKY to be a close up device that fits between the lens and camera to allow closer focussing with certain 50mm lenses. I do not understand how that could be loose. OTH if the accessory shoe will not hold a view finder tight then maybe you could remove it and gently peen it for a tighter fit.

One of my external VF's fit too loosely in my Zorki 3M (fit fine on the Leica) so I cut a small piece of paper roughly the size of the foot and slid them in together. It secured the finder, keeping it snug.

Yeah, jsut shim it with paper. Writing paper -> photo paper -> film box paper

"Gently peen" sounds like something to do in the middle of the night.
What I'd REALLY like is some kind of mini latch.

(There's an awful joke in there about fatigue as a result of too much NOOKY...)
Seriously (almost) I'm with Bob -- I thought NOOKY was a close-up accessory, and that there were various models -- e.g. NOOKY-HESUM -- for various lens options. (HESUM = Hektor/Summar, I think.)

There have been some really good suggestion on how to fix a loose acc. shoe from many different angles. If all else fails, how about tethering your acc. so that if it pops out of the shoe you won't lose it.

JLW, thanks for that link. It's evidently a D'OH or a VANKER.
The zip idea sounded great...unfortunately the finder comes within about 1mm of the top of the camera body, leaving no room for wrapping.
Suggestions to tinker with the shoe are probably right, but the loosness is reportedly not unusual...a special problem with CV meters. Currently my Ps have tape all over them, reminding me of what film's in them and holding down the rewinds, so a little more doesn't hurt. I did attach a tether to my much-tighter Leica at one point, but I'd also tethered the Leica lens hood and I became afraid that I'd strangle myself.

Plastic, like a piece of sheet styrene or something cut from packaging, is nice for shims because it's easy to adjust the thickness, doesn't absorb moisture, doesn't conduct (for cameras with hotshoes), and is free and easy to get. If the springs are well and truly worn out, shimming or wedging is still kind of a temporary fix.
