Glues needed for IIIc rebuild - help

Im tackling the shutter curtains and beam splitter, but im struggling to find an appropriate glue for the new curtains and tapes in the UK. I know Im looking for a contact cement like pliobond but not confident if Ive found a replacement.

I think my best shout is the hobbycraft shop in the UK

can anyone see a good glue for this job on this page?

Aki Asahi recommends a Cemedine product, "Super X". See this page on his website. I ordered some online on the strength of his suggestion. Indeed, it is very good stuff. I followed the instructions precisely when fitting new curtains to a Contax SLR. Twenty minutes after fitting the curtains to their drums I was cocking and firing the shutter without incident. So I can endorse that.

Generally what you want is a high quality contact adhesive product. I have no idea if any of the items on the page you linked are suitable (a rather insistent pop up appeared when I loaded it). You may have better luck at a hardware store possibly, or, if you are patient enough, order some Super X. There are plenty of sellers offering it via your local eBay.

As far as your beam splitter is concerned, perhaps the most vital point is awareness of which glue not to use. Cyanoacrylates are absolutely out of the question due to their tendency to out gas, and, if used, could potentially cause terminal damage to the rangefinder optics. Once again, contact adhesive is a safe option for that, there are also specialist epoxy adhesives made for bonding glass which will not be detrimental to optical surfaces. As well as hardware stores, these can sometimes be found at automotive accessory and parts suppliers chain stores.

Superb info - If i were to enter into a shop and ask for contact cement or contact adhesive, would that basically cover me? the gas thing is what im most concerned about.
as for pliobond, super x etc - tough to find here - i got my parts from nobby in japan but he refused to send the glue as it's basically illegal (or rather the requirements are ridiculous).

Why are there so many types of glue??? ha.

Im wondering if this Revell contacta contact cement is a good shout?

I going to try UHU Contact Stick. I think it would be less mess. Pliobond I understand is similar to e6000 adhesive and Gorilla Clear Grip.

I suspect that most contact adhesive products from reputable manufacturers would be OK to use for bonding curtains. But using good technique is also essential. The page I linked to the Aki Asahi site with step by step instructions for fixing ribbons gets it exactly right. Applying adhesive to both surfaces to be joined, not just one; letting the adhesive dry before mating materials, and; allowing some time for the adhesive to cure; are all going to give you the best long term results. I did this meticulously, and as a result, (as I mentioned previously) I was adjusting and test firing the shutter in question within half an hour of fitting the curtains into the camera.

I am in Australia and when I purchased some Super X it was directly from Japan and there were zero issues having it posted to me. I don't know why it would not be possible for you to get some sent unless there are some UK or EU regulations complicating the process for you. But in 2012 Cemedine issued a notice about the existence of fake Super X clear products warning customers not to use them and advising that the counterfeit adhesives were not compliant with EU regulations. Which very much implies their genuine product was/is. By all means, investigate the use of whatever adhesive you prefer to procure locally, however I wouldn't assume Super X is impossible for you to import without a little more enquiry. Eg this seller is based in Japan, has 100% positive feedback and will apparently post to the UK.
