gluing leather

My iiic has a few chips in its covering. It's not nearly bad enough to want to replace it, but I'd like to reinforce it in a couple spots to keep it from getting worse. I was thinking superglue, but it has a tendency to dry more white than clear. Not sure if it's the best for the materials as well. Anyone done this?

If you are in he USA, Tandy Leather Co. has many stores or you can buy online. They sell a great leather glue.

If not, Pliobond is great.

Another option for rubber cement (available at hobby stores that carry "Walthers" products) is "Goo". John

Hi Jakub,

Leica's up through M5's are covered with vulcanite, not leather. After the M5's, they are covered with vinyl. The vulcanite is hard and brittle when cold and recovering requires preheating the material to make it pliable. It's actually vulcanized rubber.

Several places can provide vulcanite for any model (like cameraleather.com). However, if you just have a chip or a small crack in the cover, you can use one of the "leather" repair kits on the market. They often have materials to copy the texture of the vulcanite on your camera.

This is for a iiic. I'm assuming it's vulcanized rubber. I don't really care to repair it, and definitely don't want to replace it, just want a glue that won't be very visible that will keep it from cracking more.
