GNS Repair failed miserably, need spare parts?

Well my first foray into Electro 35 GSN repair has ended in frustration. I was trying to remove the lens from the mounting plate that attaches to the body and I could not get the small phillips screws to budge. I applied repeated doses of WD-40, which seemed to loosen the grunk, but never loosened the screws. I applied heat to the screws with a soldering iron, but no give. In the end my nice new phillips screwdriver wound up gnarled and a few of the screws were even worse off.

Its a shame, because the rest of the process seemed straightforward and easily accomplishable.

My new GSN should be arriving soon, so I think I'll relegate this one the the spare parts bin (it was only $6). If you need a small part for an Electro 35 G, let me know. I'd be more than happy to share the wealth.

Sorry to hear that, Hal. But it can happen, stuck screws i've met as well. The worst was when it was so much stuck, the head broke off😱. I had to drill a hole in the rest, re-tap a nes - bigger - screwhole and use a bigger screw. But it worked.
Anyway, i'd only need a lens cap to fit my gsn ...🙄

If the camera I bought comes with one, than the spare can be yours.

hmm, strange that noone interested in the pieces. Although, my two gsn's didn't need spare pieces... they are working too good, i guess🙂

You could always send it to the http://www.yashica-guy.com - that's what I did with a couple of non-working GSNs. Look at it as supporting his great Yashica rangefinder site. He's a nice guy, retired. You can find his address on his website.

Try Liquid Wrench next time instead of WD-40.

If you decide not to repair it, I can use some parts. I have a GTN that has a frozen rewind etc. that I'm working on at the moment and a GS that only works as if on bulb when I put a battery in it. I'm already into the GTN; lot of fun 😀

As to specific parts, I could use a complete rewind knob and a battery cover. The guy I got the GS from tore up the rewind pretty good.

People who have requested parts but not sent their addresses yet (everyone but David), please send me a private message and I'll mail out your parts on Monday.

There are still lots of good parts -- straight filter ring, good leatherette, battery test button, undented top cap, I may wind up with a spare neverready case.

If someone has a spare battery adapter for an Electro G or a decent conical spring, I'd sure like one...
