Dear Raid,

Why would you want to use the goggled version on the M8/M9? I have the goggled version of the summaron, and found it bulky and some distortion through the VF. You certainly don't need the goggles on the M9.

Since more glass is introduced bewteen the eye and the subject, it can sometimes be not as bright or contrasty. Otherwise, no it is not any more difficult to focus.

I was more interested in the M8 situation due to the crop factor. What would I be "seeing" in the M8 VF with the googled version Summicron?

I've used my M9 with the goggled 135mm Elmarit many times at my son's soccer games, and I learned to "live with it". I have not even thought about mounting the goggled Summaron on the M9 -- hmmm, will have to try it this week-end. I'm now curious.

Your question on what you'll be seeing through the M8 's crop factor is an interesting one...I am also curious.

Of course they are. Without them you can't focus properly.

For the goggled version, of course you need the goggles to focus. My question to Raid was why use the goggled version when the 35mm framelines are available. He subsequently responded by saying he had sold his M2 version, hence he only has the goggled version to use on his M9 🙂. Now I understand the intent of his question.
