Hello,
I'm going to Phoenix, AZ in a week with the family and two scale-focus Voigtlander 6x9's. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on unique (non-touristy) sites or parks.
Also would like to check out a camera store or two, preferably some place with used analog equipment. I've found the Collectible Camera place (Ritz) and Wilson Camera, any others?
Thanks,

Photomark is a good store. http://www.photomark.com/ Lots of older stuff in the cases as well as the new stuff.
Wilson camera is really very small. Worth the visit if you're close to it, otherwise, do Ritz.
For food you might visit Lolo's Chicken and Waffles http://www.loloschickenandwaffles.com/ Don't let the neighborhood scare you away. Great food and off the tourist path to be sure.
Not sure what to recommend for photo ops. What sort of thing interests you?

I know you said non-tourist, BUT, if you have never been to Sedona, then you need to rent a car and drive up there (2 hours). It really is a beautiful and spectacular place.

I tend to like more desolate, rough, natural settings, but really, anything odd and out of the ordinary (weird buildings, junk yards, etc.). Sedona is already a posibility for us. I'm traveling with a spouse and five-year-old, so any awesome parks and play areas would be great too. We'll be staying in the north Phoenix area.

Phoenix Zoo might be good with the family- some decent opportunities there as well.

Collectible Camera and Photomark should be it for used cameras. You can also check Tempe Camera, but they have much less.
Unusual places (will you take your 5-yr. old along ???) can be found around the general downtown area and then along Van Buren and Mc Dowell (both east and west of down town, say 30th Street to 30th Avenue). You could use the map function in Flickr to explore some of these spots...
There are some great unusual/spots around South Mountain Park -- some of them (e.g. Fat Man's Pass or the Natural Tunnel) require hiking, others (e.g. Mystery Castle) don't.
In North Phoenix, (and if this is your sort of thing) you could take photos of rather surreal petroglyphs at Deer Valley Rock Art Center (http://dvrac.asu.edu)
If you have time, check out the Phoenix Art Museum (free on Wedn. evenings) and/or Tilt Gallery (http://tiltgallery.com) for great photography.
Enjoy -- you chose a great time of the year...

There is a Pawn shop towards downtown (5th ave & McDowell?) called, I think, the Jewel Box. They have a great selection of cameras (or at least used to). Family used to live in Phoenix but illegal immigration has made it a place to avoid.

Thanks for the pawn shop tip, a good portion of my kit has come from pawn and thrift shops.
My five-year-old does come along sometimes when I go exploring around our area. It's a great way for us to spend some time together and since he's quite the talker, there are always interesting conversations. Only recently has he started to like B&W photos, he used to not, but now he says "that was back when I was four!".

Yeeaaaah.... sorta... it IS really beautiful up there... just so long as you can tolerate the mystic, spiritual, hyper-aura of extraterrestrial wonderment that saturates the place.

I _think_ the Jewel Box was nuked a couple of years ago when the Light Rail Line was built (at least at its original location at Central & Fillmore).
If you feel that way about Phoenix, then good riddance. Sorry to sound harsh, but that's a ^%*$#&* comment!

Place to go
Place to go
Head to Wickenburg, follow the signs for the old mine tour, on the way you'll get Joshua trees from side roads and nice landscape.

Thanks everyone for the advice. We had a great trip but didn't have a lot of time to shoot. Here's a few:
