There is a cool camera store specializing in used cameras but name eludes me now, I will call friends in Portland to find it. Terrific bike shop: River City Bicycles, owned by an old friend, with a fantastic selection of bikes and clothing, with free espressos all day on Saturday and Sunday. The REI store is a marvel of eco-design and 2 blocks from it is one of the best Italian restaurants this side of Italy-the folks at the store will point you in the right direction-go there, it is great. Mt. Tabor Park is a must for hiking and city views. It is a city of neighborhoods so do explore some, especially the bohemian hipster hippie neighborhood anchored by Hawthorne Street. And Powell's Books is a must: the photography department is extensive and eclectic. Portland is also a great place to get hydrated as there are loads of great coffee houses and brew pubs. Into onespeed bikes ? In downtown is THE shop for fixed gear/track/messengere bikes-ask for name and directions when you visit River City Bicycles.
