Going to France.

One last request. I am considering on taking some 400ASA BW Film, not a lot but I think I should take some. Never used it since I tried it with 35 MM years ago. It was terrible for that but for 120 Roll Film I will try again. I use arcos normally, so what is the best option for me to get please.

Be careful about leaving things in your car near any of the major tourist areas. Some years back we had a close call at St. Malo with a guy trying to do a grab and run. More recently, in Portugal, we met some people who had just had ALL of their luggage stolen from their car while it was parked on a side street.

You obviously are young because I have never had a mechanical failure in a Leica or Hasselblad camera or my Rolex watches but I have been let down by electronics in photographic stuff, computer stuff many a time. That is why I am taking and have two spot meters.
I have three Nikons that ended up being crap, the 28TI and the 35TI and the Coolpix 990 all junk now, effing rubbish and my Nikon DSLR is also an erratic piece of crap as well, works when it wants. Spent $25 K on camera stuff over the years and the electronic stuff I do not trust.
So that is why I am taking two spot meters and quite possibly another Minolta gem I have, again just in case.
 
It's debatable if I'm young at 46, I feel like old myself. My experience is that electronics is reliable except the contacts or those that were done in a "new technology" at the time that was new. Pop in a new battery before you leave and take a spare along. Probably a case of perception.

But now you got me doubting even more. You say yourself your dslr is erratic. Then I wouldn't want to take this anywhere important. Certainly not if weight is what makes you doubt what to take in the first place.

Sorry to hear about the cat, always hard when pets leave us.
 
Of course a lot depends on the purpose of your journey, but more and more I'm leaning in the direction travel light, more joy and even better photography.

In last year one week trip to NYC with my wife, trip not intended as a photo trip I took my Super ikonta with B&W films ( a few pictures are here) many films and the small Leica X1. And the i.phone for casual snaps.

It work great.

Just last summer, someone broke into our car that was parked outside the hotel in Aarhus Denmark. Hertz told me that "Denmark is one of the safest countries on Earth". Luckily, my camera bag was with me at the time of the robbery. They stole every single bag that was inside the car, including small bags of my children, with their toys.
 
Yes I am aware of Europes migrant issues. They shut the Ifiel tower down a month or so ago because of pick pockets in the area below.
Being from England I am always eyes wide open, do not trust a single person. Always look for a way out of a room when I walk in, make sure I am against a wall when possible. When I put my camera bag down, I wrap the strap around my leg.
Our wonderful leader panda man just announced that AFRICA IS ON THE MOVE, well for once he is right, it is on the move into Europe. And it is not bringing the best of it either.
So take it from me, I am seriously security minded and it will be on extra alert next month.
 
At least they left the car behind. My niece got everything stolen a couple years back, car included.

But if you think like that then you can as well stay home in your bed. And most people still die in their bed. Go out and enjoy.
 
Let's keep things away from "panda terms", if possible.

I do not panic about thefts. I get a full insurance coverage.
 
Hm... no one mention tripod? the tripod has always been the heaviest thing in my bag, I'm finally settle on Slik Sprint Mini II + a stronger head, which cost me a little over 1KG, but I sacrifice the height, it only goes up to about 100CM, and is a bit problematic especially when most bridge or high rise has iron fence that are higher than that, I really would like a tripod that is higher given the same weight.
