Hi,
i am going to Rome this Friday for one week. Is there any 35mm black and white films I can get in Rome but hard to get in US? I always like to try new thing and thinking may as well look for some new film to try while i am there.

I will have some Arista Premium, and TMax 100 with me.

Best regards.
Jason L.

Ilford films are sold at any photo shop in Italy: you may try the FP4 125 ASA and the Pan F 50. I thinh that black & white films are perfect for the Roman ruins.
I suggest you to visit the photo shop located in Piazza Santi Apostoli (not far from Piazza Venezia).
I am sure you will enjoy your visit, and it will be nice to see som e of your pictures.

I shot my whole week in Rome on tri-x which is all i could find in 120 locally, it worked well for the late autumn light and provided good shutter speeds during the day for candids.

I think the OP is asking about films common in Italy but hard to find in the US.

Kinda like LUCKY film in China.

Maybe some German or French films? I don't think there's any Italian BW film being manufactured at present.

AFAIK there is no French film available anywhere on this planet.

Kodak used to run a large plant in Châlon-sur-Saône but this now belongs to history... :(

And re. the Pathé or Lumière films, I may have some serious doubts... :D

Thanks for the replies, guys!

froyd and Schlapp, going to look into your suggestion about Ferrania, never heard of it before and assume it's color film? I think I am not going to limit myself to black and white (especially when I said I like to try new thing..)

Hi Jason,

I can recommend visiting and shopping at

http://www.ars-imago.com/

in Rome.
Lots of different films, including Rollei and Adox, and all instant films.

Rome is a colourful city, therefore I recommed to also shoot some colour reversal / slide film.
On my trip to Rome I've shot 95% slide film, and I've been very satisfied with this decision.

Cheers, Jan
