Going to San Francisco on Dec 26

Well, I'll bring my digital gear and my M3!

Now... my wife is interested in Carmel as a kind of base of operations. She's more into going around the rocky beaches which she saw some years ago, in her first visit to SF.

Big thanks from snowy DeKalb! :)

either monday or tuesday works for me, though Tuesday is better (don't have to leave the new dog alone quite so many hours in a row -- and I need to be back in San Rafael around 5:30pm on Monday).

Mike -- I am still in the North Bay. I usually just ride the 70/80 bus from San Rafael to SF, but I would be happy to carpool, though it would have to be in your vehicle as I doubt you'd want to ride on the backseat of my motorcycle (which is mighty cold and uncomfortable this time of year) ;-)

Michael, I'm looking forward to seeing some images from the rigid. I almost kept that one for myself! Let me know how the enlarger hunt goes....

I'm in for a good walk and beer.

P.S. Bingley, does Bob always speak in 3rd person? Just curious. ;)

P.P.S. Papercut, are you still in the north bay? If you can make it we can carpool.

Your wife picked well. Great hotels and food there ....

And who does "street" anyways ... The few miles south from Carmel to Big Sur is among the prettiest California can offer. You might want to rent a Californian scooter ( = Big Twin ) though :) Even in December.

Bob, Steve, will be great to meet you finally in person next week.

Cheers,

Roland.

All,

I look forward to seeing the final plan, I live nearby and will try to come as well. It would be nice to meet you all in person and I'll give one of my film RFs a little workout.

Taylor's Refresher is a fun place to meet up at the Ferry Building. If there is a decent photo exhibit at the MOMA it is also kind of fun to meet there, see an exhibition and then go shoot. We did this a few years back for a One Challenge and it was a terrific day.

Maybe next time for me. It'd be nice to meet some of you guys in person.
My in-laws are arriving tonight, visiting from the netherlands for the holidays (they're really here visiting their new grandson, NOT my wife and I, we're just along to take care of the baby I think. ;-)), so the next couple weeks I'm not going to have quite so much free time.
But next time I'll try to make it over from the east bay.

I was a tourist in SF last summer for only 1 day. You have to go up to the Intercontinental & go to the bar at the top. Great old school hotel to get some great shots, nice old Catholic church across the street. If you smoke a cigar from time to time go to the Occidental Cigar Club 471 Pine St.. This is only one of two cigar bars in town, great folks & you might see some good photo opps. Have a nice trip.

Roland, the pleasure will be ours! :)

In deference to Papercut's schedule, and b/c everyone else appears available either day, let's plan on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Ferry Building locale per Kent's suggestion. I will check the train/Bart schedule and report an eta for the arrival of the Sacto RFF chapter. A visit to SF MOMA is always a good idea, but it would be easier to convene at the Ferry Bldg. since it's so close to the BART station.

OK deal?

I'm game, any of those days. In particular if beer is involved.

Roland.

Truer words have never been spoken :D

I'm about to head out of town tomorrow and won't return until after the New Year, otherwise I would have liked to join in the fun. Be sure to ask Mike to pick up the beer tab, as he has been building up his bank account quite impressively as of late.

hear, hear for beer!

and a big thanks for accommodating my schedule, Steve -- I'm grateful and looking forward to meeting everyone :)

Yes, a 'Beer and Gear'!

I'll plan on it. Tuesday, Dec 30 (what time?)

Thanks for the heads-up, Steve.

Looking forward to meeting Francisco and other locals whom I haven't met, and FINALLY meeting Steve and Bob (the Sacto contingent).
Oh yeah...it'll be OK (i guess) to see mike, roland, and kevin again (i guess). ;):D:D

I'm arriving Christmas day night in SF. I'll have my two M7s and plan to lots of street stuff over 10 days. Is there an RFF plan then?

Kent, Brought to Light is the current photo show at the MoMA. It's centered around scientific photography and there are some stunning images, but it's definitely nothing in the documentary vein. You can view some of the images on the online guide.

If you guys are in the the area, you might wanna consider swinging up to 49 Geary to check out some of the photo galleries. Fraenkel currently has an Avedon show. Be sure to call ahead of time to make sure they're open, though. For instance, SF Camerawork is closed until the new year.

Bingley, with gas prices down, it might be easier and cheaper for people to carpool from Sacramento versus BART + Amtrak. However parking in the city could be a PITA (I'd recommend the Metreon garage).

Thanks, uintu. I am well familiar w/ the perils and high cost of parking in SF, which is one reason I think we'll take the train. The other reason is the beer...:)

You know, just because we had to break up the brawl you started last time, you shouldn't keep resenting us. And you know you want to look through the S2 viewfinder. Don't worry, all the cool kids are doing it. It'll be okay. Just have a little taste.......

Be sure to ask Mike to pick up the beer tab, as he has been building up his bank account quite impressively as of late.

Well Honus, you know your weekly Trix-xTol 101 course is not cheap, and I'm also planning on taking your 'how to become a Painter of Tones' course in January. I hear the tuition is double the Trix-xTol course! :) (Also, the wife is getting a Martin guitar for xmas. More going on the block soon...)

Papercut, I'll be happy to give you a ride in Tuesday. The good news is I have a wooden leg, and the in-car breathalyzer (mandated by the judge in my last case) should prevent anything bad from happening. I haven't had a chance to hack it.

Lets not start THAT again! It's bad enough that Prius' are no longer the fastest cars on the freeway and single-occupnat Hummers are back in commute traffic! :D

However, as a backup plan, we might want to meet at the Metreon (Jillian's or 4th Street Grill). It's close to vehicle partking, a block from BART, and a block from SFMOMA (if we are in fact going there).

Mike,
Haha -- sounds good! I'll fire you a PM with my mobile number so we can coordinate.

I am really bummed.

I am really bummed.

The days you guys are planning for the get together are the exact days we'll be having company from out of state. Sure hope I can make the next one. Sure sounds like a lot of fun!
