I need a strap system for all my cameras.

I have a pretty good cloth one for my SLR, but it is not QR so I can't easily use it with my RF's.

My SLR one has small triangle paper clip style things on it (but strong), then rings connecting the nylon strap ends to the triangle things.

This seems like a decent method as there are no scratches from 10 years or so of use from that strap method.

Is there a similar non-scratch method for RF's but with a quick release mechanism? I know about the tripod mount wrist straps, but am thinking about using the dual eyelets and around the neck style. Thanks.

I use this neoprene strap with my SLR:

http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_1&products_id=99791

It consists of three parts: 2 'Male' ends of plastic clips (the sort you find on backpacks) which attach to the eyelets on the camera body, and 1 Neoprene strap with 2 'Female' sockets on each end. The 'male' ends connect with the 'female' ends to form a complete loop.

The plastic clips are an effective quick-release device, and so far, they have yet to break or give way. I have no lenses above 135mm, though, so I have not truly put this to a rigorous test yet.

Thanks Clarence,

That looks like a great solution. Anyone know if the similar thing is sold in the US?

There's that brand called Optech, which employs a similar strategy.

Their straps are nice and they have a type which is actually 2 nylon loops which you loop aroung the strap lugs. No metal = no scratch

I use a heavy boot lace with a knot tied at each end. No rings, just stick it through the eyes and tie a knot.
Recently used a longer one, leaving a foot long tail on the left end with a fishing snap swivel for a meter (long enough to stuck the meter in your shirt pocket).
Most 35mm RFs are not that heavy. Takes up very little room and certainly won't scratch.
Sounds tacky, but no one has ever noticed.

I've got three slr bodies and wound up with a nice wide strap on each one. Changing straps was a hassle, and some times I'd carry two cameras. Shoelace won't cut it with a motor drive, zoom lens, flash bracket and big honking strobe...

Look into the Tamrac lineof straps. All have quick release and the straps tehmselves can be obtained in neoprene or nylon with embedded rubber grip strips. They even have some with 1970's-vintage patterns if you are into colored straps. The prices are around $15. (A boot strap would be significantly cheaper... I wish I knew about that option before I bought a couple of the Tamrac straps!) Check them out at Tamrac's web site, B&H or Canoga Cameras... all of which can be googled.

Thanks, the Optech stuff looks great, can use one main strap, and a couple of quick release connectors on each camera.

I like the Tamrac line, too.

I checked out most of these yesterday and got a tamrac n-15 qr nylon hand strap. However, after getting home and putting it on, it doesn't quite fit well for supporting one handed steadiness like I thought, and the bulk is just overkill, so I'll probably keep looking, or just go with a simple loop wrist strap.

This hand strap also has some small painted metal grippers on the nylon part that stays on the camera, so this could potentially cause some rash during pulling the camera out of the bag I have for it, a tamrac digital TEK bag which is a good fit.

I'm going to go with some simple strap that just loops on one end of the camera for now.

If I knew that you were interested in a wrist strap (maybe I didn't read something carefully enough) I probably would have suggested the "boot strap idea" more emphatically. The Tamrac wrist straps, as you say, seem a bit bulky.

The Tamrac neck straps are great. I use them on my RF and on a F3/MD-4 so they've proven themselves to me for both light and heavy cameras.

Good luck finding your ideal solution!
