Up until 1971 and before the 35 S came out, they were made in Germany but I cannot find any information that the 35 S was made anywhere but in Singapore and the Rollei Club experts seem to agree.
Apparently, swapping the back was used by some sellers to try and increase desirability.
This forum is great! I've had a Petri Color 35 sitting here for years. I haven't picked it up because I thought it didn't work. The shutter wouldn't trip. After reading this thread I dug it out. Cranked the lens out and it works fine. It feels like new camera day. Thanks! Joe.
