I see that most never spell out e*bay, and don't know why, but I will assume that there is a good reason. Let me know if including the names of businesses is improper. I mean for the best.

After reading a post about a bad experience at "PriceRitePhoto", I thought it would be a good thing to have a thread dedicated to reviews and reflections on the good experiences that people have with their labs and shops.

There are a number of stores and labs that I deal with, but only a couple of them deserve any acclaim.

-The Icon- in Los Angeles does great business. They are fast, never lose anything, are very courteous, and give discounts when you pay ahead BIG discounts like 20%. And their development of my negatives and slides has been flawless. And 3 hour turnaround on EVERYTHING except printing is a great luxury. I can turn in 4x5 E-6 and B&W and have it done by the afternoon. Wow.

-Chrom'n'R- on Melrose in Los Angeles are the only place that still does type R prints, and they do a fantastic job. They are very friendly, and very good at what they do. They are also very small, and will remember your name, which is a nice thing in a huge city.

-Samys Cameras- in Los Angeles is also a great store to deal with, as long as you keep away from the consumer sections. The 4th floor, where the MF and LF gear is, is highly knowledgable, helpful, and never pushy, and there are always pros up there talking about the craft(art), and anyone with ears can pick up valuable pointers. The consumer section is merely over-packed with consumers, but the staff are very deal-ready, and will negotiate prices on anything. I saved myself over a hundred bucks on my last $600 purchase there through negotiating.

Having a resource for believable reviews of services that apply to our mutual passion is a good thing. Given that the average online review site is not trustworthy (given that we can't verify the sincerity of any review), here is a good place, and posting reviews of relevant stores/labs seems appropriate RFF thread material.

FNAC in many European cities are good.

They are a high quality minilab within a book and electronics store, often in malls, but they care about photos enough to have an exhibition gallery out front that's bigger than the shop and minilab put together.

Even if you don't need supplies or developing it's worth looking at the gallery: often classy B&W images. The juice bar is pretty good too.

Albuquerque Color Lab - 5200 Comanche Rd NE Albuquerque, NM 87110 Phone (505) 881-8383

Process One 7105 W 95th St, Overland Park, KS 66212 Phone (913) 648-0871

I have dealt with both companies face-to-face and can recommend them.

There used to be a place in London, is it still there? Covent Garden.

Starting at the touristy market/piazza bit of Covent Garden walk a little towards the tube station. After twenty metres or so turn into a courtyard to the left and go downstairs.

They do B&W in an hour or so with double-size 'contact sheet' very reasonably priced. Pro oriented and no advertising at all, and even no name that I recall.

In Brussels: American Color is a great pro lab for E6, Techno Photo is a great lab for everything else 🙂

yesterday's experience

Robert White has been very communicative and helpful, and are filling my order for the RF645 now, and have agreed to check it for flaws (like RF alignment) before sending it. Trelawny Burt at Robert White has been great to deal with.

I will follow up when the product has arrived from its several thousand mile journey to Los Angeles from the UK.
