Hello

I am visiting San Francisco next week. Are there any particularly good shops that a film photography enthusiast would want to visit?

Thanks for any help.

Whenever I'm in SF I visit Camera Heaven. It's in a slightly dodgy part of town, and it's small, but there is always something in there that I want to buy, and the owner is a friendly chap.
Enjoy your trip!

Rayko Photo at Harrison & 3rd is primarily a rental darkroom facility and gallery, but they have some film cameras for sale. Calumet Photo (Bryant & 18th) has a good selection of pro equipment. Keeble & Shuchat in Palo Alto is probably the best photo store in the Bay Area, but if you are a Leicaphile, there is also Camera West in Walnut Creek (reachable by BART).

I think some of the better stores are actually outside of the city.

There's Looking Glass in Oakland (where you can also meet RFF member BTMarcais).

and of course as Roland has pointed out, Keeble and Schucat in Palo Alto:

Also has one of the biggest Leica collections in the country.

Wonderful Leica display.

For a laugh, there's Discount Camera on Kearny St. in SF. The window display has a bunch of nice gear, but it'll have you shaking your head at the prices.

Yup definitely go visit Matt at Glass Key to buy some wonderful film, some which are not found anywhere else. Good prices on them as well.

Definitely check out Glass Key Photo if you're around the lower haight: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Glass-Key-Photo/119199231470385

It's located in a corner of a great record store, but he's got every kind of film imaginable, way cheaper than anywhere else in the city. Also photo paper, chemistry, root beer, and he'll fix your turntable. Nice guy, too.

Thanks for mentioning this place, I had never heard of it. I went in and bought a bunch of film there today. Matt was a super friendly guy and he had all kinds of unusual film for sale.
His prices were great too, Tri-X in 120 for $3.99(cheapest I've seen,) and Adox and Rollei at Freestyle prices.

If you're in Marin, Seawood Photo in San Anselmo is worth a visit - lots of vintage film cameras, some junk, some gems. Bargain for a better price.

I'll second the recommendations for the Looking Glass...went in the other day and purchased a couple of rolls of Tmax and the clerk thanked me for shooting film! Whats not to like?

Reviving this thread because I’ll be in town this weekend. What’s a good place to get 120 film?

I got a chance to stop by today. Cool place. Nice guy. Lots of film choices and film cameras for sale. Also papers and chemistry too. Recommended for those who use film.
