Good Flickr groups?

I think that moderated groups are generally better than unmoderated ones. Lots of people like to talk about how HCSP is full of jerks and blah blah blah but the photos (that's the important part, right?) are mostly very good. Just ignore the discussions.

For unmoderated groups, I often search the group for the most common tag (indicated at the bottom of the group pool page) and then arrange by interestingness. Tends to cut out a good deal of the clutter.

I joined to keep up with their content. I'll have to submit something for consideration...sounds intimidating though.

Y'know... I am not all that impressed with the supposedly selected pictures to begin with. At least with HCSP, there's one here and there that just wow'ed me.

I just found out about this group from this thread yesterday, so, no bias here 🙂

Now I'm all for constructive criticism, but I nearly fell off my chair when I read what they wrote. I'm not saying my image is the greatest in history, but they seem to be full of...

I have tried it couple of times and it went either yes, yes, yes (seldomly) or no, yes, no, no (mostly). It is really not easy to make it to the main pool, also they are very picky about small details (In my case some dust specks from scanning) but it is challenging ... Also it seems that they don`t like street photography a lot.
 
I think that describing hcsp as "elitist" gives too much credit to its arbiters. There are other groups that have excellent photos without the unpleasantness.

In addition, some of the equipment-oriented groups are very worthwhile. The Canon-RF group was previously mentioned. Another is the m-mount group:

There is a rigid protocol for tags in this group, but it makes sense, adds consistency, and is valuable for searching. You can cut and paste the recommended tags when you post:

I haven't found anything else on Flickr that comes close to the quality of HCSP. They actually have a thread there where they ask members to recommend other groups. That might be worth a look.

Most groups on Flickr are dumping grounds. You have 100s of new pictures a day, no one looks at anything, most of the photos are crap.

I agree 100% percent.

So far it is the only group worth browsing through that I've found from Flickr.

Of course still not near perfect... But there are a lot of good photos there.

As for the alledged Hard Core issue I felt something, I am not sure what, but I feel very comfortable with the StreetPhoto group.

That wasn't theirs... sorry, should have edited - I deleted their posts.

Basically, they all said they were not accepting it to the pool as it 'wasn't clear' or 'in focus' 'to their eyes'.

Judging by the absolute crap they do allow through, I'm taking it as a cpmliment... 😀
 
Im a member of flickr, I have been for quite some time, its a place to up your work and show it to the masses and sometimes make a friend or two. However if you are looking for constructive crit you are never going to get it. there are a lot of brown nosers there. also there is a lot of 'politics' also. so i found out on the leica M mount group, who forcefully added tags (little bits of suplimentary information which helps (or hinders) searching for images), to my images because the owners thought it was becomming too labor intensive so someone invented a program to re-tag images not up to spec.. very annoying and very immature. so I left the group. anyway flickr itself is wonderful and well worh losing a few days a month prowling around..
