I currently own a Contax G2 and while I like the range finder experience, I'm finding that the critical focus for close up work just isn't satisfactory. But I do enjoy throwing in a camera into the car that I can take in to places without having to pack in an SLR camera. I do a fair amount of portrait work at pageants and for clients on the side, and I'm shooting with an EOS camera (EOS 3 or 50d) and either the 24-105 or my 70-200mm f/2.8 at 200mm f/2.8 if I want a good Bokeh. I'm looking for similar quality in a range finder, and a similar Bokeh, which is difficult at lower focal lengths than at 200mm.
First, AE Priority Shooting is a must, so I'm limited to the ZM, M7 and R3A/R4A I think. The Voigtlander 50mm f/1.1 looks interesting, but I think compared to my 70-200mm at 200mm f/2.8, the Bokeh looks very blotchy and the 50mm f/1 is out of my budget. Am I missing something or the is the 50mm f/1.1 just not blowing other people's skits up either?
Second, the critical focus capabilities keep getting passed around, but it's all talk and so much talk by so many different people (with different agendas), how much difference is their in crital focus capabilities with the R3a/R4a vs the M7? And how much does glass like the Voigtlander 50mm f/1.4 vs a Leica lens come into play here?
Third, are their other options? i've owned a Sony Nex, but found the lens lacking (too consumer), and the X100 lens just isn't close enough for me. Besides, I like film over digital for my own stuff.
But most importantly, I want the ability to do portriats, unfortunately, the Contax G2, just doesn't do that well up close for focus.

As far as close distance focusing and framing go, the G2 is at least as good as the mentioned rangefinders - you cannot really expect AF SLR performance from either concept.
That is, you may be barking up the wrong tree - you should at the very least get your hands on some rangefinders before you decide they are the best choice for what you want to do.
