Good lens choice "around 90mm"

I also have my Uncoated 9cm f4 Elmar.

And the world thought that super-multi-coated was a good thing.

I agree with Tom, get the "later version of the early Summicron 90f2 (black anodized)". It is hard to beat summicron. My favorite lens for portrait, it is very sharp and it gives smooth and silky Leica Bokeh. I have used Hexanon 90 and tele-elmarit. They are good lens, but if can only keep one 90, I will keep my Summicron 90mm. IMHO, this is one of the most underrated Leica lens.

it looks nice but its weight is 700gram *geez* Later version looks interesting with its 400gram (APO-500grams).

Which 90mm old leitz lenses produce glow at max apertures? I remember I saw selfportrait of photographer who used very old 90mm lens. Probably uncoated. I'm not sure if it is collapsible Elmar or oldest Elmarit.

For what it's worth...I suggest the 90mm F2.8 Elmarit lens....Late versions are selling at much cheaper prices than ever. also that lens produces a "sparkle" that is unmatched by even the Summicron ASPH !
In the area from F3.5 to 5.6 the lens is a stunner. Ewrin Puts book makes great mention of the special sparkle this lens gives. the earlier models do well but do not give this elegant charcteristic.
You would not be dissapionted and even at the F8 and F11 range is a knockout for about 1/3 the price.
Ihave both a the Summicron ASPH and the Late 2.8 Elemarit lens and each is a talented child but with different talents !!

Good Luck..........Laurance

canon 100 f3.5 if you want small, sharp and affordable.

canon 100 f2 (or 85 f2) if you want fantastic.

Maybe a touch less contrasty that what you're after though.

A Canon 100 f2 is actually not exactly what I was looking for: big, quite heavy... but I could get my hands on one from Japan in A- condition at a reasonable price and could not resist... and I am very, very pleased by that lens. It works fine on my M6 and VT deluxe, and it's a nice companion for my 1.2/35 Nokton - size and weight are very similar, a nice combo for "no available light" situations 😀
