As I am writing this Hurricane Sandy seems aiming for NYC and along with many predicted dire consequences all along the East Coast.

Hopefully the US will get lucky and it won't be that bad. but ...

Good luck to all in the storm's path, and keep the rest of us updated on RFF with pics as you can!

Stephen

The generator's ready, shed and yard stuff are locked down. If I get crazy, I'll go out and make pictures.
It's the people in the big cities that are a concern, for the power outages in apartments and condos . . . esp the older folks.
Good time to check on you neighbors (old or distressed) who might need a hand in the next few days but won't ever ask you for help, you know?

Thank you Stephen and Oliver. We are prepared, and hope for normalcy as soon as possible. Regards, Jean-Marc.

Good luck to all concerned.
I just returned from Boston, and I am lucky to have scheduled my trip days before the hurricane.

Thanks, everyone. People on Long Island are getting ready for it. My shed is locked, yard is clean. Tomorrow might be just another work day.

Amen to good wishes. I was supposed to go to D.C. on Monday; flight was cancelled y'day. Just as well. Batten down the hatches and stay safe, everyone!

Indeed...after seeing the size of Sandy from space, I have the same bad feeling I had when I first saw Katrina. My thoughts are with everyone on the East Coast...from a guy on the West Coast

I'm safe and dry here in NorCal, but we worry about our daughter, who is in far eastern PA on business. When she finishes up her plan is to drive up to my cousin's place in R.I.
Fingers crossed!

We dodged the bullet down here, but we now what it is like, so we pray for an easy ride for you N'reaster's.

yow...."frankenstorm"...

best wishes to all and hopefully the hurricane will diminish in strength /size and intensity.

be safe, be careful and as already mentioned look in on older neighbors.

bon courage...bon chance.

breathe, relax and enjoy (after the storm).

I'm not so sure I buy that bit about the big cities. Things could get pretty bad in NYC and environs because of storm surges, but ...

Right now, Sandy's path for Tuesday/Wednesday is centered on Central New York, and it's a very wide path. Tomorrow's forecast for that region calls for winds in excess of 50 mph, with gusts to 80 mph at higher elevations --- and those conditions are supposed to prevail through Tuesday afternoon. Mind you, this is an area where most roads are lined with trees, especially at higher altitudes

If that forecast plays out at something near its worst, there will be power outages over much of upstate New York (at the least), and the power will likely be off for days or weeks. And in an area that's home to maybe 8 million people (or more).

Sitting here right on the midline of Sandy's projected path ... :(

By 9 o'clock tonight there will be no trains or buses here in NY, so going to work
is out tomorrow, they say it's going to be a bad one, and where I live there's lot's of
above ground wires for electric, phone so we might lose power here in Westchester.

We're expecting lots of wind here in Northern VT, but not a lot of the rain here. 80mph winds tho. Fingers crossed for you all down in the real path.

Thanks to all from Manhattan. Bathtub filled with extra H20, extra batteries on board, balcony emptied of everything not nailed down. Daughter visiting from Michigan, now grounded for an extra few days. All patients evacuated from the hospital where I work.

See you on the other end!
