"Good" M42 Body, or ... switch to Nikkormat?

True, you only need one body but how many lenses? ;) The problem is that the Pentax SPF will only open aperture meter with Pentax SMC lenses, the Fujica with Fujinons etc. If you use a "different" brand lens, you have to resort to open aperture metering.

But you only need one M42 body, therefore you don't need a "standard" :) you just need to pick a good one.

I never really liked to me what was the confusion around the M42 mount. Lots of lenses, but which needed to be stopped down and what. Not a surprise, I'm saying go Nikkormat FT3 or FTn. I'm selling off all my F2s and going to keep my first SLR a Nikkormat FTn. I think I'm going to send it off for CLA, but only after running a roll though her. I just think the Nikkormat FXX(S, Tn, T2, T3) are build almost as strong as the Nikon F. There is lots of GREAT glass out there, old and new that is reasonably priced. Just takes a little digging to find some times.

Well, I think the open aperture vs. stop down metering issue is the deciding factor for me. There are other factors, too, such as the placement of the shutter speed control, plus some non-rational factors.

Gene, I look forward to seeing your FT3; in the meantime I'll try and read up on Nikkormat body models and lenses.

Thanks to all ... darned fine SLR knowledge and advice for a rangefinder forum!
