the good news is that my 50/2 collapsible summicron arrived in today's mail

the bad news is the seller was right there are some swirl marks on both front & rear elements

the good news is the swirls are not nearly as bad as i thought they would be

the bad news is there is haze or something on the inner element

the good news is i am brave with a 99 buck lens and took it apart to clean

the bad news is i am dumb with a 99 buck lens + tools and now have a crippled lens

the good news is i have a brand new zm 25/2.8 lens on the way...

🙁

the front element ha 2 long swirl marks which i doubt would affect much photo wise. the haze is worse, like lots of small dots.
the aperture blades moved when i took the front off and when i tried to 'nudge' them into a circle they started to bend so i backed off, perhaps too late.
the rear element has more 'cleaning' marks.
and the aperture was very stiff.

it was a dumb move on my part.
i should have waited, at least, till after dinner when my mood and hands are more calm.

i may just leave it in the box for a few days...🙂

I think that's a sound plan. I also believe you owe it to yourself to have a go at
completing the job. Having been where you are, I know what you're feeling. But
if you leave it, or send it to someone else, you will always HATE that lens. Give it
some time, and have at it again.

You'll prevail. I am certain of it.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one with the affliction. (besides continuing G.A.S.)

I think I'll have to call what I have DRIPS: Disassembly Regardless If Prudent Syndrome-

(just popped into my head, but fits)

Joe: Last night I pulled out my Oly Auto Electroset, a rather obscure camera in the full-size Olympus RF series. I had disassembled it quite some time ago (18 months or so!) and had all the parts bagged and in a small plastic container the size of a shoebox.

Fortunately, I had taken meticulous notes, so once I do all the cleaning (the main repair is done), etc., I'll be able to get it back together. Today I adjusted and cleaned the rangefinder, and I've set it aside before tackling chrome cleaning and reassmbly.

So, if you didn't make notes, make them now before you forget. Carefully store everything and put it away for awhile until you're relaxed and clear. Then you'll be able to get it back together, I'm certain. What ever haze you can't clean, no matter. It'll be a nice soft portrait lens!

ok, the good news is i got the aperture blades back into place

the bad news is a gave it a hit of canned air and sent the whole fliipin' thing into the air.
who knew the bloody ring wasn't attached to anything. i could have moved the blades back together so much easier had i known...
i now have a jigsaw puzzle and i doubt it will ever get back together now...at least not buy me.
