I was having soo much fun with my Jupiter-3, Summar and Summitar that I kind of forgot about the bog-standard 50mm f/3.5 Elmar lenses I had.

So when I went on holiday in Ireland a few weeks ago I took along a Leica III and the first Elmar I ever bought. I think it's from 1946 or 1947, it's coated and it has some dust specks inside.

I had brought my last roll of Ektar 100, and a few rolls of Spector 200 Color. But what with shooting my Epson R-D1 and a Rolleicord I did not get beyond that first roll of Ektar film.

Anyway, here are some of the results, mainly rocks and water

I can suggest reading the Ektar film review by Roger Hicks on exposing this type of film.
I think it is because of the saturated colors that my G4050 scanner screws up when it comes to Ektar 100 film. The colors in these scans have been auto-balanced, it means the bright blues and greens have been toned down somewhat.

Nice work - I think Ektar is the saturated print film to rival Velvia.

I have a roll shot last week at the Hampton Court flower show to be processed, plus one still in the MP - maybe I should fix on my 1933 Elmar after seeing these results!

That looks like the West coast - pounded by the Atlantic. There are some great beaches too, but you generally have to find somewhere a little more sheltered
 
Interesting that these photos look terrific but - to my eye, they're lower contrast and not "biting" sharp. Makes one wonder if all this talk of sharpness and "contrasty-ness" even matters.

Nick, I feel the sharpness is influenced by my HP G4050 scanner and Vuescan which are both a bit off when it comes to Ektar negatives.
 
nice photos. reminds me Cliffs of Moher. very picturesque place + you might be able see Statue of Liberty from there, if weather is VERY good, and your eye sight is VERY good 😉

I think it's over rated - my Canon RF lenses are mostly low contrast, and some of my most interesting shots are not sharp due to motion, camera shake or my bad eyesight. It all depends.

We were at the Cliffs of Moher a day or two before our visit to Inis Mor. Personally, I felt the they were a little bland compared to those at Dún Dúchathair. And way more Touristy 🙄 😛
 
Nice work. It reminds me why I want a pre-war uncoated Elmar. Maybe I can budget it one in now that I've paid off my new rifle?
