just days before fuji releases it's most excellent x100 firmware upgrade i manage to get a pretty sweet local deal on a nice x100!

it was a toss up between saving the money for the new xe/xp...putting it towards another lens...or just saving it...but being in a funk i wanted something that might help push me up & away and i thought the x100 might do that!
i had one before but traded it towards another rd1...a bittersweet deal.

but the x100 always stayed pretty close in my mind and i am so glad i made the move to getting another one.

it is such a sweet camera, silent, hefty build and with the upgrade a very nice performer!!
i feel my mood lifting already...went for a walk over lunch today and took a few shots.

not sure why it feels so different from the xe-1 with the tiny 27 but it does!

The X100's f-stop ring and optical viewfinder make it much more enjoyable to use than the X-E1 + 27mm kit, IMO. And the X100 or 100s help diffuse some GAS because you then have no need to be chasing after other lenses. I'm about to make the same change, Joe.

The X100 is still a great cam Joe, you know that any it will fit nicely in that Bare Bones Bag. I haven't used mine for a while though so tomorrow I'm off to the city to give it a good run. Though I shoot RAW usually, I'm gonna have a play with JPEG settings as I've never really done that since buying it.

Maybe you are aware, maybe not ? . . . if you shoot RAW with the X100, you can do in-camera conversion to jpg and tweak the output settings. That is, make jpg variations (white balance, shadow tones, highlight tones, sharpness etc etc) in the camera and still have the RAW file + multiple jpg versions using the Fuji conversion software. I have been working this way recently, and I like the process.

paul, i am loving that bbbe bag!
makes a great everyday bag for work, a great weekend bag too! today, i have my x100, xe-1 with 35 on it and the 60 tucked in there as well.
my ipad mini fits perfectly in the outside/back pocket...only downside is that incredibly loud velcro.

Cheers for that Dave. Never tried that. As I said I usually shoot RAW but the other day I was reading Kevin Mullins blog and he shoots JPEG when doing weddings and street. He sets it to B&W + Red filter, sharpness +1 and NR -1. I thought I may give it a try.
When I first got the X100 and there was no RAW processing available, I did shoot JPEG and I thought the results were great.

I would shoot raw+Jpg, never jpg by itself, so that I could have post processing leeway if required.

I tend to shoot RAW to give me that leeway too but never have the JPEG setting on.

I often shoot RAw+jpg, usually with the latter on a BW setting. I like seeing the live view in black and white, or reviewing my shots, so I can see if it looks better with color or not
Curiously, I personally like how the in-camera JPG handles high ISO and low-light better than I can do in Aperture. It's magic!

What I have been doing is shoot RAW only. When I get home, call up the "RAW Processing" menu on the X100 and make maybe 6 jpg variations with the camera. Then see what they look like on my (pathetically outdated) computer. I am generally very happy with at least one of the jpgs.
