In a pinch, I will delete the last photo added to card.
Never delete one in the middle. Depending on how many storage units are taken up, the next added one may use them all, have an overflow in which case there will be a fragmented file, or use it partially in which case the next image will use get a fragmented file. I believe this risks corruption. Ever defray a windows machine? Same thing.
Also deleting does not clear the directory or table of contents of the card. If the TOC fills, you get a message card full, when in fact there will be no pictures on it.
My rules, Format the the card in the camera that will use it when new and use in only that camera, do not delete, download photos, format in the camera. The firmware on the card will reallocate storage locations so as not to keep using the same ones and delete the TOC. Wear is therefore spread over all the storage locations.
If the camera goes bad, reformat in the replacement camera.
Buy quality cards from a trusted source like B&H. No EBay. There are counterfeits out there and the cheapos use the rejects from the people who make "insides" for say Sandisk and Lexar . Quality ones are usually sold in two packs at substantial savings at B&H. I will warn that the counterfeits are so good you can not tell them from real.
I have never had a problem with a card.
