Good video tutorial on reeling 120 film

Thanks, I've got a roll of 120 kicking around I've been meaning to develop. Shame he's using metal reels though, I'm gonna try and figure out this plastic reel.

EDIT: That was easier than I thought it'd be. 😛

Thanks! Just the kick I needed to get going on this process.

This video is a "kick" for me also.
I have the metal tank, reel, and a changing bag, not as well designed as his, just a small one that looks like a black t-shirt.

Now I've got to get the chemicals and I'm still iffy about dumping the spent developer/fixer down the drain... 😕 but what other choices do I have?

That guy was funny! I loved his "Ray Charles" whilst in the darkbag!!!

One thing I gotta say is that he is fast at loading!! Ive never loaded 120 film myself, but it usually takes me about 20 minutes to load five rolls of ilm onto Jobo 2500 series reels for use in a five reel tank, so four minutes a roll (that is, if I have already pulled the film leader out and cut the leader off).

I saw those last week. The Large format one is hysterical.

Will, Developer goes down the drain but the Fixer doesn't. I put my spent fixer in it's own spent fixer 1 gallon HDPE container. It's my understanding developer pretty much breaks down pretty quickly in air anyway.

Dump it in your neighbor's back yard at night...while they're asleep! 😀

Ivan, how do you then dispose of the spent fixer once the container is full or the fixer is not reusable anymore?

I haven't got to that part yet...

I think you can take it to a pro-lab for silver recovery. I've heard you can put it in a container with a ball of steel wool and the silver will precipitate out of the fixer.

My used fixer container is about 2/3rds full, so when I get to that bridge, i'll let you know what I did.

I bought a kalt 120 spool yesterday at B&H and it's impossible!

I don't know if I got a bad copy but I've tried 50 times last night with 2 sacrificial rolls and I got nothing.

I think I am going to return it. and drop the coin on a hewes

If you can find them over the Pond try the AP plastic reels - I find it easier to load 120 on them than 35mm! They have a large platform in front of the film entry point, all you need to remember is on the first loop around the spool that you make sure the leading edge of the film clears it as it passes underneath.

Here's a tip for rolling 120 on crap spools

Here's a tip for rolling 120 on crap spools

So I exchanged my krappy kalt 120 spool for another krappy kalt 120 spool. I don't have the $65 to drop on the Jobo reels. Anyway, the second copy was far better than the first. But still, toward the end the film would jump the guides and get messed up. :bang:

I found that pressing a the two sides together while loading the film helped tremedously. So I put the reel in both hands and tried squeezing the two sides a bit. Now the film rolls on 100x better than before. Still occasionally jumps but I can easily correct it!
