Good ways to conceal your film

When I've photographed with a 4x5 camera on a tripod everyone assumes that I am an official of some sort - surveyor, land agent, seller and professional photographer. You are out there with your big camera on a tripod, the opposite of concealed and everyone thinks that you are supposed to be there. Wear what the locals wear with a safety reflector vest and a hard hat and I doubt anyone will look twice at you.

So I´m doing a documentary project on a certain reputable place in this world. The government do not want any kind of information about the place to get out, so I´m trying to think of clever ways to conceal/hide my films if stopped and questioned by police/security officials. The easiest way would be to do this digital, but my trustworthy Mamiya 7 is my preferred choice of equipment. Any suggestions, tips or advice would be much appreciated, especially from anyone of you who´ve been to such places or in similar situations 🙂

Cheers!

What country is it? Knowing that, people may be able to give you more specific info. I've been in China for 3 years now and have shot stuff that I know is not allowed, the way I got out of trouble here is probably different than say America.

i was going to suggest follow the rainbow warrior crew who hid the roll in a body cavity... but here's a good suggestion:

bring 2 cameras: one film and one digital. get caught with the digital.

Dear Vance,

Very true. Are we dealing with 'civilized' countries or not? 'Civilized' is here defined as 'with at least some regard for the rule of law, or at the very minimum, some fear of causing international incidents.'

Cheers,
