I am currently using iWeb and .Mac as my webhost and front end for page design. This is very limiting. For example, I can only put three photos on a page template. There does not seem to be a way to increase that.

Any recommendations on better web builders and hosts for photo display? I have seen some beautiful websites linked to on RFF.

I guess it depends on how much you want to spend. Our company (not photography though) uses lunarpages.com, they charge $6.95 a month for their basic hosting package, but it includes quite a bit, including some website design programs.

I'd suggest

I'd suggest

that you browse some of the review forums for managed hosting, or even the support forums for sw such as that used here, the vBulletin support forum.

You get what you pay for, as many of the firms claim the same things, though few deliver. Also, watch out for the pay up front w/discount, many folks wish they didn't get locked in to the first hosting firm they went with.

Thanks all

Good advice. I've already read some posts on a forum. I will try CNET ratings also.

What about site building software templates? I'm not HTML savvy.

Interestingly, I use lunarpages as well. I chose them purely on performance, not so much on features. I had a lot of thumbnails fail to load with my previous host, simplehost.

lunarpages offers up some basic site building tools, but getting a copy of dreamweaver isn't a terrible idea. It can be hard to use, or it can be easy, depending on what you want.

I use Laughing Squid and they have been really good. I like them for reliablity, they are local for me at least, they support artists & non profits, they support my blog software (WordPress) and have excellent customer service & tech support. I've been using for about a year now and have had no issues at all. I highly recommend them.

I learned the hard way and used to use Globat. Oh man they were horrible. They were cheap but half the time my site was so slow or was down that I had enough and left even though I had a few months left. You really do get what you pay for.
