Goodbye Zeiss ZM 50/2 Planar.

Could you guys explain the difference in look between the Sonnar and Planar for me?

The Sonnar is in color, while the Planar is only B&W. 😀
 
Some recent shots taken with my Sonnar - all at f1.5 [ Ilford FP4 125], after the sunset. Scans from the prints, not negs.

The Planar is a sword - sharp, perhaps too much. Sonnar is a butter knife.

The minus point of the Sonnar is the 0.9m minimum focal distance [that's the right terminology? ] compared to 0.7m of the Planar - as others have mentioned here.

I like to fill up the frame, but it's impossible in certain occasions - everything gets blurry, no matter how good it looks. Two examples below (when magnified, the blurriness becomes visible):
