Gossen Luna pro SBC gone crazy

It served my reliably for many years and today... And today - when I push power button (the red one) meter needle goes to the extreme right position (overexposure) and stays here not responding neither to light change nor to rotation of exposure correction dial 🙁 I thought it is battery, but new battery did not help.
When I depress battery test button (green) in off mode, no reaction (which is wrong), but if I depress it in metering mode (when needle is in crazy permanent "overexposure", needle goes back to battery test zone. Any similar experience, any tips?

Sounds like your meter has gone wonky. Perhaps time for a new one?

Repair might be a very expensive option for such an old meter. Too bad, because it is a great meter... when working.

Got a flashmeter or spotmeter attachment? Mine sometimes went mad that way when I plugged out the sinarsix attachment. It always stopped after reattaching it a couple of times, so it probably was a sign of a weak contact in one of the attachment plugs - a minor flaw that any good camera service person should be able to fix/clean without special parts.

If it is anything more complex, the used value of Profixises/Lunasix F's has dropped below the price of any in-depth repair...

I'd get it CLA'd if it were me. Unless you buy a brand-new one, it gonna a need a CLA too. Another vote for Quality Light Metrics.

I just sent my old (something like 25 years old) Luna Pro to Quality Light Metrics. Basically had it rebuilt and converted to 1.5 v batteries for around $80. Took George less than one day to do it. I should receive it back this week. Wholeheartedly recommend QLM.

I wish I could send to QLM, but I'm in Europe and shipping cost alone will be close to 80$ so I better look for a new one.

Sent mine that I bought in the 60's to Bogen for CLA and conversion to modern batteries. Bill was $80. Still tying every bundle.

The original poster, and my Luna Pro are the SBC... no battery conversion needed. This meter uses a standard 9 volt.

Mine... goes to the batt test zone when turned on, and when push the battery test button, drops down to the green calibration mark.

I'm calling QLM tomorrow.

If I can get it fixed for $80, as some say, that's about 1/3 of what I would likely pay for a new meter.

You could always try to fix it yourself? I had a Gossen Luna Six meter that did the same thing. Mine was on the opposite side though. When I lifted up the front cover, the needle coil was wrapped around some other part. I took a pair of tweezers, moved the coil off the piece it was caught on and done...fixed. Might be worth a shot. I'm damn glad I gave it a try rather than dropping $50-100 on another used meter. Only took me about 15 minutes.

My original post was in 2010 and I bought the new meter (Luna Pro F), however I still have the old one so if anybody figures out how to repair it, please share...
