Gossen luna pro

I recently picked up a luna pro in great condition. Although the voltage for the batteries I use for it are higher than normal and the meter is 2 stops off most of the time. I think the voltage is off, they're 1.5 volts. Would the wein cells be correct for this?

Wein cells should have the right voltage. But whenever I've hit that 1.35V mercury battery problem, I've always preferred some other solution.

Gossen makes and still sells an adapter for the Luna Pro that lets it use modern 1.55 volt Silver Oxide cells. Really the best solution, despite costing about $40

I use the Bogen adapter to use silver oxide cells in the Gossen Luna Pro - $37 at B&H photo in New York - B&H# GOAKBHLP. Some people complain that this is expensive but I've found that the meter works perfectly with the Luna Pro and easily obtainable LR44/SR76 batteries. The adapter seems to be specially designed for the current/voltage characteristics of the Gossen meters (that use mercury cells).

Maybe better to use the SR44 than the LR44 w/ the Gossen adapter. Also I got mine CLA'd by Quality Light Metric Co. in Hollywood, CA. Mine was off by one stop all the way up and down the scale.

Either buy the Gossen adapter or install a Schottky diode (or two). It still works accurately with the same two batteries!

Do they have a web site? Do you have other contact info? How much do they charge for a CLA on a meter? Full of questions, aren't I? 🙂

I don't have that information, but when I needed it, I got a phone listing using just that information.

They've been around for a long time, and I have been told they do the light meters for the movie industry, so they're probably a best bet for being there for a while. I spoke with them on the telephone and they were quite accomodating. Unfortunately, they could not get the parts to fix my Sekonic L308. Also turned out, somebody had already been in it before I sent it to QLM.

MAC group wanted over $200 to fix it... I'm glad everything is moving from Analog to Digital. Cripes!!

The simple and cheap solution for the different voltage is just set the ASA/ISO dial two stops slower. That works on mine.

Kat - I think that while this may appear to work at one particular light level, the correction is not necessarily linear across the whole range of light levels that your meter is sensitive to. The 2-stop error may be true in the middle of the range, but it might be only half a stop in low light, and 4 stops in bright light (or something like that). It's best to give the meter mechanism the voltage that it was designed to work with.

QLM has been around since Moses was a boy... and has always had a great reputation. I contacted them a year or more ago to repair a WestonIII that has the glass busted out. The price quoted was more htan I wanted to invest (somehow $65 sticks in my mind). The arrangement was that they didn't have a walk-in shop, but a mail drop arrangement. Ship it to them and they repair it and return with a bill, I think I remember.

My plan is to get it fixed sometime next year...
I bought it about a year ago and it's in mint condition...when I bought it it was working just fine but now the needle is jumpy and it's not metering correctly...
When it did work it was spot on with a Luna Pro sbc I have...

One of mine went jumpy, too. I took it apart and cleaned the contact between the selenium cell and the meter. It stopped jumping. I've had good luck with old Westons, too, and use them regularly.

I will second the suggestion for QLM. They repaired/CLA'd my Luna Pro and it is the best light meter I own.

They do a great job fixing and adjusting meters. I've used them on several occasions. Yesterday I sent them two of my Weston Master V's. One needs a new cell, the other has a mechanical problem (I need to be more careful).
