Okay. Now there's a solution that will stop the craziness!

It's those Schrodingers Cat ones that get me laughing.

Sealed boxes with a rare Leica inside (?).
How do you know there's a rare Leica inside unless you open it, and if you've opened it to verify that it's genuine then it's not a sealed box any longer.

I've heard of people sending the boxes through x-ray machines to ensure there's something inside.ClaremontPhoto said:How do you know there's a rare Leica inside unless you open it, and if you've opened it to verify that it's genuine then it's not a sealed box any longer.

Wouldn't you love to put a Holga in a sealed Leica box!

I'd like to buy it and burn it in front of anyone who would even consider paying a premium price for a bloody cardboard camera box! :bang: :bang: :bang:

Just be glad you don't own a Nikon. The porcelain figurine collector attitude is pretty much all there is, as far as I can tell. You can now pay $400 for an empty box from our esteemed patron. I don't blame him for the asking price, but the idea is more than a little idiotic, IMHO.

The best camera is one that still works!

I wish you hadn't told me that!

Shaken, so blurred
Come on now, stop it you lot! Aren't we supposed to be a bunch of camera fondlers and gearheads? Surely our reputation will be irretriveably damaged by making fun of such things. The next thing you know, someone might be indiscreet enough to remove a camera from its cardboard box, put wear on the mechanism by
loading some film and then (heaven forfend!) might take some photos!! The horror, the horror. We might never live it down.

An M6 that was new in its box, unopened was on eBay a while ago... good idea I thought that it came with xrays showing there was actually a camera inside

There's a guy on eBay who sells fake x-rays of Leicas in boxes.

This begs the question, does these collectors have inexhaustable supply of impressionable friends?
I mean, you pay through your nose for the mint-est, oldest, rarest Leica in its box, show it to your buddies, and then what?
Yes, we're a bunch of gearheads, but even we have some *standards*

This one's a bargain at just $155, though at such a low price you have to put up with a lot more grime and wear.

Matthew: It's not the grime that makes that worth less. It's the fact that it's not coming from Avenue Road in Toronto. Provenance mean$ a lot.
