I finally did it. With my Nikon adapter using all my old Nikon glass, I can finally manual focus with a split image rangefinder, like the old days. Focusing manual is now a breeze on my L1.:)

I have a Katz Eye on a Canon Xti I use manual focus lenses on with adapters. Makes it MUCH easier to manual focus. Easy to install, too. You'll enjoy it.

With one of these screens, do you still retain the ability to autofocus?
Yes, nothing changes, autofocus, points, switchable grids, all work. Just the split image and microprizm is added.
I use a katzeye with my D70s, works great.

Boy this is an RF space. Auto return mechanism is part of the automatic aperture magic that allows you to focus and view at the maximum aperture (wide open) and then when the shutter is pressed, the camera stops it down to the chosen aperture before the shutter opens. Once the shutter closes the aperture opens back up.

I'm wondering about how hard it is to see through the EVF (electronic view finder) window when the aperture is say set to f8. Is it as easy to see as say when it's at f1.4?

I think EVF have auto brightness increase for the given F-stop. At least, for electronic finder it's quite easy to implement
