I turn 37 years young at the end of the month, its not rangefinder but my brother gave me a 1960's vintage NIkkor 35 f2 wide angle lens to go with my Nikon F and Nikkormat Ftn. Cosmeticly well we nicknamed it the Vietnam lens as it went through 'nam in some war photographer's kit. The Glass itself is great. I am just itching to shoot with it.

The 35mm F2 Nikkor-O is a very sharp lens, and the '60s vintage often sells for more than the newer ones. A lot of photographers prefer the older lens, and felt the newer 35mm F2 gave up something when the optical formula was simplified.

I have two 50/1.4's and a 105/2.5 telephoto all of the same vintage and in better cosmetic shape, there is just something about Nikkor glass from the 60's you just can't replicate today, same goes with older Leica, Canon and CZ optics. Only other camera buffs understand, all the other people in my life think its time for my meds to be changed because I am talking about film photography and "old" cameras again.

Congrats, I am sure you will enjoy that new lens and yes we understand.

What a thoughtful and appropriate Birthday present! Someone appreciates your interest in old cameras and got you something useful rather than an ugly tie! 😀

Happy Birthday and may you take many interesting pictures with your "new" lens.

Well, my brother Alex kinda got me into this disease...I mean mental illness...I mean hobby on the old equipment front. Alex if he was not so busy with life would have ball around here. He loves his Russian Rangefinders, Leica Screwmounts and TLR's. But, its his current obession with the Nikon F body. I wound up with my late dad's early Nikon F with the Eyelevel prism, Alex goes out and gets two Nikon F's and a black F2 with the meter heads. Now I am getting a second F with the Meter head, my techie has one and I will trade in my Canon FD mount system to help the transaction. Alex has a higher gear count but he is a corporate tax accountant so he can afford it. We got the bug arund the same time, its more of an arms race.

Alright, Bill, Happy Birthday and all that jazz, but after that gloating note don't expect us to jump again with a big "Happy Birthday" thread on your anniversary. Your fun has been had a bit ahead of schedule.

Now, go and enjoy your lens! 🙂
