Always take at least one extra along, the M8 never picks up a battery that has lost its charge. Most other electronic devices I have ever encountered, will at least try to boot up while on low battery - so there must be some electronics involved here.
I have had my M8 die several times, in the rain, cold, and once covered in melted snow and really heavy condensation - that time I really thought it might have packed up...
Left it upside down at a table, having to wait a few hours before letting any charges flow through the circuits - but it was all fine, fortunately.
I do think the M8 is stable and takes a lot of beatings, especially when you get one second hand that you know has been OK from the start.
Use it, keep lugging that extra battery, and you will be hooked in no time!
