Well the R came in today, Thanks Ray, and must say my initial impressions is very good. I have a roll of 12 exp. Tri-X I was saving for a test. I will post photos from it and the 50 collapsible

You're really going to love the R. It's a nice machine and a pleasure to lug around all day.

Be careful with your collapsible 50, though. I tried to collapse a Summitar 50 into my R body and found that the back of the lens grazed the metering cell. I've decided to stick with the J8 or I26M for my 50mm needs when using the Bessa.

Nice to hear that the package arrived safe and sound. Enjoy, Rick.

Thanks for the compliment, Joe. If only I were in as good a shape as my equipment!

And Gene, I followed your lead. Rick's Dreb is coming my way. I've got an M42 adapter and my takumars are waiting. If that works out ok, I'll be looking for an adapter for the Zuiko's soon. Time to see what this whole DSLR thing is all about 🙂

Some people devise some type of washer or spacer (such as a rubber band) on the lens barrel to prevent it from accidentally collapsing all the way into the body. That may be a good safeguard.

The lure of the dark side is powerful and often underestimated. "...and if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you..." 😀 (due credit to Nietzsche)

Cool! When I still had Takumars around I had an M42 adapter for the DReb and it worked very well. I had more Zuikos around than Takumars so I got the Kindai OM-EOS adapter and I still like using it.

I personally don't experience any contradictions or any existential angst by shooting film AND digital. I love film for B&W, esp available-light work. For colour work I prefer digital to film, either slide or negative. Having choices is good! 😀

I was just joking. Whatever works for you 🙂 . Dark side analogies are just fun.

rick,

grab scott's 85/1.9 it's a nice lens.
and a very good price.
joe

Joe and Rick,

Sorry, but as of today the 85/1.9 is sold. I've still got a couple of leitz 135s posted, but those aren't a good match for the R (no 135 framelines, short RF base length).

A good way for me to realize I'm spending too much time with my Speed Graphic - I saw that as "dark slide analogies"... :bang:
